I think it really is a bumpy fugly car, the front and rear end both suffer the same bumpy add on frumpiness. Looks real bad with cars with coloured paint.

The dark grey looks better as the diffusor rear end and the radiator intake integrate into the grey. Sorta almost looks nice. But with the green and other colours-its just fugly- the frumpy bumpiness is just highlighted.

Driving my smoke FGX XR8 into an underground shopping centre with a glass entry and driving towards the mirrored glass, the FGX just looks clean and smooth- head on.

But putting aside the fugly dated looks, cannot but respect the engine, gearbox, intercooler, big brakes, suspension, cooling. With the torque and suspension will be a great drive.

My big regret with the FGX XR8 is that Ford did not give us much better brakes- bigger discs and calipers. I would have paid an extra $5,000 for an upgrade if it was available had I known then what I know now about these brakes ability to fade.

I have nothing against the car per se. Talk about price is irrelevant. People who are in the market have the cash. For me though, unless I was a staunch Holden aficionado that was a multi millionaire, I couldn't justify it when it really is a four door family sedan with an awesome driveline. I would be after a legit sports car, but that's just my opinion. Nice car though.

Walk into a HSV dealership and try to buy one. You don't think there's 300 cashed up people in the country? They were sold in September last year. Would be a great year to be a HSV salesman.

Edit: There's already a dealership calling people who put their name down they're looking at 220k-250k if they really want to secure their W1. Games have begun.

The real catch will he the uniqueness of it.
Only 300.

If you're rich anyone can have a porsche, ferrari etc. (Baring certain models of course )

But the ability to say
"I own one of only 300 of Australia's last and most powerful v8's"
Will be something.

I see alot of. Its ugly etc.
But each to their own. Alot of people say the Au is ugly and ive heard alot of comments about the cobra coupes too with the gaudy blue stripes. ?

Im leaving my decisions on looks for when i see one in the flesh so to speak.

As for the fgx. I never upgraded from my fg mk2 because the fgx yo me looks too much like a mondeo and focus etc with the front end.
Never did like the carp/cod mouth grill look.

Not a fan of the looks or the price. I still think Ford went out the right way, lower price, plenty of go and a bit of show. isn't that the Aussie muscle car way.? still sad to see both companies gone/going just wont be the same without them.

Would take a c63 over it any day of the week. Looks retarded. 0-100 in 4.1 which is only slightly quicker than the GTS and slower than a c63.

4 seconds quicker around a track though than a gts is a huge improvement. But is the new suspension rock hard, and will the tyres be bald in 5000kms? Will be interesting to see what they say it is like on the road. There is no mrc suspension like the gts has.

HSV are lucky they could steal the engine and running gear from there brothers in the us. Ford Australia had to do it alone. So to me there is not much australian engineering at all in that car. this has left hsv with lots of time to concentrate on the important things like bumper bars and exhaust tips.

W1............an irrelevant Track focused production car that crushes all previous Australian built efforts that have ever been put on a race track. Yeah strangely I can relate to that.

I was looking for a way to put across how i feel about it and you have summed it up perfect.
It might be pricey, it might be ugly (beauty is in the eye of the beholder) i dont actually mind it. But its the last, the fastest (well id say it is) and its very limited. HSV really have nailed their core statement in my opinion, I just want one!

I don't see what there isn't to like with exception of looks which are always subjective. I'd would have expected more power that may have to do with emissions. It is Euro 5 compliant.

As for price, I reckon if Ford made a GTHO as everyone wanted I'd be surprised if it wasn't in the same ballpark

More orders than what they were going to build anyway so obviously enough people think it is worth it.

Here's a lap around Phillip Island with a pre-prod mule.

A vid about what they did to build this thing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKt3HINp6fE

It's a shame because I doubt many are going to even drive them let alone give them a flogging.

Arguably the best car ever to come out of Australia, even with that front bumper.

Just having a look at what an LS9 has should show you why these are going to be expensive. Dry sumped, Forged aluminium pistons, Titanium conrods, oil squirters built inside the block, bigger supercharger compared to the LSA. Add to that the AP racing brakes which are larger, and lighter, than what the regular GTS gets plus the supashock suspension and Pirelli PZero trofeo R semi slicks. This will be the fastest car to ever come out of Australia.

In a way the W1 is HSVs.......GTHO. A very fast track focused production car and not a quarter mile weapon, that only has a one trick pony big HP motor.

Reading on HSV forums. A fair few blokes have been rung today and told to expect to pay 220-250 if you want to seal a deal even though they have deposits down. Sounds like the Sprint all over again with dealers price gouging. Crazy how they can get away with it

Looks are subjective. I prefer the E3 and FG over the Gen F and FGX and I thought the Gen F GTS and FG GTF were good. This W1 is a beast and on another level..

Sounds like its happening already..................I wonder if the HSV fan base is broad enough to support a pointy end that can actually pay for it at those prices.
Can't wait for the "Its a Collectable" dog and pony show to start.

Great effort by HSV on a hell of a send off, we can throw stones but compared to the Mustang and Future GM V8 offerings we are set to get in the near future nothing will get near it.

Looks are subjective, I think saying it looks ugly is an easy option of dismissing what is an awesome way for HSV to go out with a bang. The biggest baddest car for the enthusiasts in a now PC world where exciting and interesting cars are few and far between. with an impressive engine/driveline/braking. Well done HSV. I think to really pass judgement on its looks like most things you need to see one in the flesh. I love the bold green, suits it perfectly. Hope to spot one out in the wild sometime

Wow nit-pick central in this thread.
Actually they had to redo the steering to an electric setup and get stronger gearbox internals.

Wars over.... enjoy both brands for the classics they made... and what they can hopefully still give us.
