greg13 .. seems to know what the rules are as well .

Vic rules are different to other states as in Vic we play comp rules at just about every venue UN less they have House rules posted .

All Fouls are 2 shots from the first shot AFTER the break
The break ... 3 Different ball must hit the rails OR 1 ball be potted
If on the break 3 ball don't hit the rail or ball potted then it is a RErack with the other person having 2 shots.
If you pot 1 yellow and 1 red on the break , The player MUST nominate a color and play on .
IF on the Break you pot a yellow , you may nominate RED , Then POT a red to be on them , IF you miss the pot on RED then it is OPEN TABLE for the next player.

There is D in a league pool table there is just a Line called the Baulk line .

All shots from BIH have to be played from behind that line and you may shoot anywhere. IF you put the Cue ball on the baulk line then You may get called a foul as 50% of the ball has to be behind the line .. not on the line.

BIH ( ball in Hand ) is from ether Potting the cue ball , Cue ball leaves the table or Foul snooker ( thats where you can not get the finest possible cut on BOTH sides of your object ball )

I could just give you a link to these rules but most people wont even look so this is the basic rules .

Cheers

2 Shot Rule ftl - i always make that clear at the start of a game - It ****es me off when people think they have some sort of credit they can add up - Same with people who stick the butt off the cue between the ball and edge if its too close - boo hoo

I played a little competition pool back in the early 90s. Low level stuff. But we always had the two shot penalty, and the second shot always carried over unless the person taking the penalty fouled (then two shots straight back to the opponent) or if the black was sunk - and end of game.

And yes, if you sink the black before anyone is on it, then it is effectively a forfeit - game over.

I experienced these same rules in WA, Vic and Qld.

What's with you knobs and NO two shots?

That means you can miss hit/foul and snooker someone with no penalty, lame.

Yeah i agree but if your ever your playing in NSW it bring the As#hole shots out....like knocking balls out that are set up but then the NSWelshmen have a winge: "oi you can't do that"

But the penalty is you're no longer at the table.

Perhaps I play on exceptionally easy tables, but when I used to play, you give someone 2 shots and you may as well get your coins out for the next game because you're probably not going to get another shot. We did things to make it purposely harder since we were poor students.

I don't see why there wouldn't be a 2 shots rule, it's not really even 2 shots rule, it's one free shot - I think that makes more sense when its said like that.

If you didn't have a free shot it's like, oh, i missed, oh well keep playing then.

So if your stuck, you just hit the ball up into the corner behind another few balls for the snooker. Thats ridiculous.

I guess you New south welshman also play the 'if you foul on the black, game over' rule? I think that's another crock.

2 shot on a foul, you keep potting until your 2 shot are used. Unless you are fouled snokered, (where your oposition committs a foul and you are not able to see more than 50% of one of your balls.) you are then able to nominate any ball on the table for your next shot, with no foul being committed.

+ any foul on the Black ball is a loose.

I've played a bit of competition 8 ball in 2 states and both use the "World Rules". Playing comp means umpiring some games when you're not playing which requires some understanding of the rules.

2 shots apply to all fouls and you keep potting until both shots are used.

A foul snooker gives the fouled player the option of asking the umpire to remove the white ball and the player is then allowed to place it anywhere behind the baulk line (the D is not used in world rules) and play both shots from there as a normal foul under the world rules.

A foul on the black gives the opponent 2 shots same as any other ball, unless the black is actually potted on a foul shot.

But you've snookered the next person anyway so they can't do anything. Therefore you're advantaged, not penalised IMO.

And as someone else mentioned, you could easily knock out setup shots with no penalty, seems silly to me.

Hallam pubs rules, you get two shots, therefore your girlfriend loses. Thats how we used to play years ago - mind you it was hard getting a table then

I love this thread... Just like every day life, the New South Welshman cry "you pack of homo's" only to realise that they are in fact looking at themselves in the mirror :

It appears that only in NSW does this rule differ :
