Wait, Holden made engines for Fokker!? I haven't heard that one before. Biggles would not approve.

Aha, for so many reasons. Now I see. This is the biggest case of being owned I think I have seen this year so far.

EDIT: In other news, a bit of 'WTF' googling does turn up some interesting reading material: http://museumvictoria.com.au/collect...-series-i-1941

Sure the cars themselves were a knock off of an US based model, but was holey & solely manufactured here in Australia as all die pressings were here, not just in the states and assembled here.

Manufactured under licence, as it were.

License ?

They were Ford cars, so no license was / is required...... just the financial justification to do it. There are no product or intellectual copyright issues with FoA building Ford products.

Ford Australia is a wholey owned subsidiary of the Ford Motor Co....

Holden however.. would have had to get a license to build cars from other companies until they were bought by GM.

This is way off topic.......... sorry.

I wish GMH all the best in their potential new export program..

Based on that quote alone, you show that you have little idea.

Fokker did not build any fokker aircraft in WWII (let alone Biplanes), the factories were used to build Junkers aircraft after the Germans took control of the factories.

Most Fokker war aircraft used either a Mercedes or BMW engine.

I actually hate the way Holden have posted this sort of crap for years
They are really good at it, the sad thing is Ford
are really bad at it and do bugger all about reversing
the damage these claims do to the market place

Was the 1960 Falcon/XK made here or just assembled here? In any case, wasn't the first Ford Falcon manufactured in the US of A, and the first (real) Australian Falcon was the XM in '64? I'm also mixed up a bit.

Yes Galaxies and Customlines where built / assembled here..
We mainly had trade with England at the time till in 70's they went EEC..
Euro economic community...
There's no reason that Holden could be another Saab if things don't come good...

Well, it was my post about Ford being a carmaker in Australia longer than anyone...

So, what about Lutz effectively being premature about this deal again???

GMHolden pull this crap all the time. Rarely do the deals eventuate and when they do, often aren't profitable for them. Middle East the exception.

Just like the Eco-Commodore 10years ago. Where is that hybrid?

Gunnary Sgt Hartman from 'Full Metal jacket' - top movie.

I honestly think Holden are trying to get this export deal - they need it. Whether it eventuates is another question. They now have a powerful ally in the US with Reuss.

Cruze will fall over eventually - THEY CAN'T MAKE MONEY ON IT !!

It will also be massacred by the new Mazda 3, Corolla, Hyundai, and the all new Focus...

Word will get out that it is a VERY average C car.

Unless they were whittle w.2 engines of a UK design....which seems a bit far fetched given it the gloster did not enter australian service till 1946 i believe.

ok i'm going a bit off topic....

Yes, they do, and NO ONE calls them on it. Not even supposed Ford fans on here....

I talked about the hybrid case in my earlier post. Hell, everything they have brought here (including most of them that failed) has been delayed by years if not more.Presumably they spin these stories to get good public perceptoin of their 'advanced design' and get their name out there. If i had a buck for every time i've been told by a Holden fanboy '....holden have this coming', 'holden are going to destroy ford with this new.....'. Come on! What a load. Not only does the product often never enventuate (and then said fanboy denies ever saying it would) but when it does its so behind the times it can't beat what the market already has. AFM took years to turn up, and then didn't work. SIDI (esp the 3.6 version) took years longer than the caddy that already had it, and still doesn't work all that well anyway. Hybrid commodore no time soon, the 'diesel commodore' no time soon, the E85 'pushed back possibly' from this year to next. Cruze delayed it goes on and on.

GFC may have made things worse but it not like holden has anyone but itself to blame on most of these cases....

^ Yes, there have been numerous export arrangement of theirs that haven't worked out. However, you do have some mistakes. All Holdens are E85 capable, the US police cruiser is going ahead, and the monaro & torana were only ever rampant rumour & speculation from Holden fans as far as I am aware.

The diesel Commodore would have to be the biggest one in my view, how many times did they say it was coming? and it hasn't, and funnily they're being punished for it as the proposed diesel engine was very good..
..instead they give Holden purchasers Active Fail Mechanism.

I cant see how the cop car IS going ahead. They have tendered in the US- under the circumstances I cant see the US government importing cars from AUS when theres high unemployment can you? Unless it was going to be built there? Diesel (surprisingly quiet) E85 complient ? Really ? In what way? The torana was a concept car that was shown at motorshow as was the coupe 60 all shine and glamour and no substance.
