Spoilt for choice here, sometimes it is difficult to decide which one to take, I like them both.

One thing you do notice when you drive both regularly is that the ground clearance or lack of it on the falcon becomes annoying. The longer overhang makes this worse. The better ground clearance and less overhang the territory offers just makes it more practical every day.

Not from an off road capability point of view but just the practicality of everyday driving, with the prevalence of steep driveway entry’s and the various traffic calming devices thrown at us these days, which sees my XR6T with slightly raised suspension still scraping over and up half of these obstacles even at a crawl, especially with the family and a bit of gear in the car.

With the Territory I don’t have to slow to crawling speed and approach dips and gutters at such an angle. Combine this with the condition of country roads in this state, and the lack of tyre sidewall on modern sedans, it’s no wonder SUVs are what is selling.

Very good point David222, bloody melbourne, no shortage of nasty gutters and driveways, speed humps, etc, etc, the terri wins on that one.

The OP asked what the Terry does better! not which is more popular.

So it's valid....falcon has a V8 option, terry doesn't

Dunno about that, Holden sells over 1000 V8 cars a month.

Why wouldn't you cross shop these cars?
I think you're correct people did cross shop 8-10 years ago.

But if anybody is doing the same thing now, they are lost in the past. a Territory, or most other SUV's wins every time.

I don't know if Dropping is the correct word, but yes both will cease next year because there will be no more Australian made cars.

But Ford will have Everest and Edge introduced to fill the gap left by Territory.

There's no real replacement for Falcon, although the upcoming Mondeo looks a bit bigger.

There's no real replacement for Territory either. Everest is a Prado-style 4WD, Edge is a Captiva-type FWD SUV. Territory's niche will be left vacant in the Ford stable.

You'll have to widen your wallet to MB and BMW if you want an equivalent to either Falcon or Territory that ticks all the same boxes.

I don't think we should be arguing Falcon vs Territory. They're both very fine cars from the same platform serving different market needs.

The Terry is the main reason for the Falcon Wagon's demise. And not from the buying public's point of view... it was all part of the Ford plan when the Terry was introduced. Make the Terry & drop the Falcon Wagon... if someone wants a Ford Wagon... they can buy a Terry. When this is considered... then the OP's question is very valid. (from a Wagon point of view at least)
The only reason the Falcon Wagon lasted so much longer than first thought... was fleet demand. in the end... the requirement for tooling (or re-tooling) for the Wagon's body (not emissions) became it's main downfall. (same as the last Monaro).

Ive had a few Territorys and they are nicer cars to drive then Falcon, easier to get in and out of and a better view for highway work.

They steer nicer too especially with the electric steering in the SZ.

The Territory wasn't developed to kill the Falcon wagon. It was developed because Ford foresaw the overall decline of the large car segment; the rise of SUV's and Crossover Utility Vehicles; general market trends and consumer studies demonstrated this (and Ford was proven 100% right) and Ford knew it needed to diversify its local manufacturing operations with another volume seller in order for it to survive long term.

It was entirely from the buying public's point of view and Ford knew it. That's why Ford did it. And it was one of the best things Ford did.

Ford Australia would have wound up building cars in 2006 instead of 2016 if it wasn't for the Territory.

And that is 100% spot on also. That idiot Tom Gorman ****canned it, a diesel engine early in the piece would have generated a fair amount of revenue and justified a much greater investment in the SZ.

Wasn't saying the Terry was developed to kill the Falcon... I was saying it was part of the proposal for the Terry (put to the money men in the States) that it would replace the Falcon Wagon as the "large Wagon" offering, to help ensure the Terry proposal got legs (to justify/ensure predicted sales numbers in their minds)

I believe they would have complimented each other... more so if they continued to offer the Falcon Wagon in the previous higher spec versions as well. I believe very few customers would have chosen one over the other... with the majority of Wagon owners still wanting the Wagon.. and the new SUV owners choosing a Terry over a similar offering from another brand. but this is just wishful thinking on my part (and many others I have talked too).
