I believe the crew of the ship might have unloaded their ballast prematurely hence lifting the prop out of the water meaning loss of propulsion when they really needed it. A very similar accident to this in South Africa not long ago. They ended up having to break the ship up where it lay. Meanwhile a skywalk from Nobbys to the ship would be a good tourist attraction!
I thought the same thing, with the amount of tourists there to see the ship, Newcastle City Council should buy it and sell souvenirs.

The F3 is open, but the Old Pacific Highway is closed due to the road washing away, killing the family of five in the AU Falcon.

Ditto. The longer its there the further it gets wedged and the more sand builds up around it. I expect them to pump the fuel and oil out, build a bank out to it (if nature doesn't) and then start dismantling it. When there is only a bare hull left they might have some hope.
Or they blow just blow it off or up into two pieces - that would be fun.

I went in today to have a look. They opened the foreshore to traffic at about 1.15pm.
It was an awesome sight to see it so close to shore and the tide was fairly high so I dont think its going anywhere in a hurry.

The buoy few K's off the coast was recording 17 metres apparently. Journalists obviously got hold of this and tried reporting it as on the beach!!, clowns.

Definately weird driving around seeing all the cars and carnage. For anyone that knows the area, the Coles at The Junction has a car park underneath and the cars that where left in there where either floating or you could see the top 1-2 foot of.

Mate I work with had a bit over a foot flowing through his place, and he had to abandon his car in waist deep water and wade home.

Gosh this is a sad state of affairs for the folk at Newcastle. My wife and I visit Newcastle ( she has family in Taree & Forster) regularly looking for a home to move to from Adelaide. I'm now thinking the Gold Coast may be a better option! At least your not on water restrictions!

That looked bad towards the end. Looks like it started to get pretty nasty. We lost our car in the Wollongong floods in 97. Unpleasant experience.
