Remember kids, if you want to do "comparitive tests" its best that you get a manual.

damn you daniel_rossy i was gonna post that pic!! Its another case of similar power/weight ratio but the falcon has an auto..if the honda driver sucks you will beat him easily, if he can shift properly he will most likely triumph..never ever EVER unerestimate a good manual driver, even in a much less powerful car..I smoke automatic VL commies in my little 1.3 litre Toyota Starlet manual.

Without the badge his car would be lighter and beat the Honda for sure! I asked the same thing you did a while back. It really depends on the condition of the car and of course mods. I've beaten a VT SS (probably thrashed) and almost got beaten by a bloody mazda 3. Just drag him at a track and find out. There's really no way to be 100% unless you do it.

My mate had a 1995 Vtec Civic hatch with a few mods.....VTEC would push you into the seat....Use to take out pretty much all stock 5litres and most other cars.......VTEC is no joke.....People bag it out all the time but they move...seriously move...

We raced!
Track used: (2km road on friends country property used to get to a vine yard) Results: Off the line he had a 1.5 car length lead which grew a little up untill i hit second at 70 and he shifted gears again during which i closed the gap to me being half way up his car untill he reached hi revs and regained a bit of length, then on his next shift whilst my second was carrying me right up to 115 it became a neck and neck. End result was he sat infront of me by about half a car length so the VTEC won! If we carried up through to a higher speed i think i would of eaten him through the length of 3rd. But we didnt try to those speeds. We had a few drags but the results stayed faily close together with the Honda always being at least half a car infront. Each of us had a person in our passenger seats to have a good look at the situations in each race. Even though i lost im pretty happy with the result all things considered. The Honda VTEC would definitly be a pain to beat along normal streets where you dont have that kind of length to use higher speeds in the N/A 6. I definitly would of underestimated this car if it pulled up next to me at the lights. Video's will be on youtube once i get hold of them.

i still reckon if you had a manual you would have been fine. the tall gearing in the auto would have been what killed you
p.s. good to see you didn't write back saying "i lost because the cambre of the road favoured him more" or "he got a slight tailwind" etc. hate it when people make excuses!

mate did u stall it up before you launched?? That might have gotten a bit of ground for you and help 1st gear pick up quicker...My XR6 gets off the line lots quicker if i stall it up, only problem is that if my tyres are cold i lose traction so its becomes pointless...if the race was that close, i reckon if you put in some diff gears(3.7's or something??) to shorten your 1st you should beat him, half a car length is nothing.

Preludes are extremely overated and there is no tuning potential in it. The bloke I know with the Prelude put an exhaust and intake and chip on and went BACKWARDS in power. All so what is the big deal with VTEC?? Isn't VCT pretty much the same thing? |

just a hell of a lot quicker, more power, more torque, and if we're talking a BF with ZF auto, forget about it.

Honda's VTEC system uses cams with two different profiles all together. One profile for low rpm & one profile for high rpm. |
