As some one who's knows someone who has a property who has too deal with this, I say the Farmer did the right thing.
My mates old man has to deal with this all the time and looses quite a few lambs to domestic Dogs who owners refuse to lock them up at night. At first he visited all the "Lifestyle" blokes that are close to his farm and reminded them to lock there dog's up and if they kill his live stock they will be shot! They didn't listen and he still gets dogs on his farm and he Shoots them. The local Vet will put down any dog that is brought in with a Gunshot wound as he knows why they have been shot at. Even better is when they get people walking around on there farm and when asked what they are doing they reply we thought this was public land!!! Bloody Air heads. They have 3 dogs on there Farm and they are kept in there own fenced aria at night or when no-one is around to watch them

In the theme of "Guns & Australian Society"....
SA has just introduced what the Government claims are the toughest gun laws in the world.... Police in SA now have the power to issue firearms prohibition orders against people and have created a new range of offences including possession of a firearm in contravention of a prohibition order and residing in premises where a firearm was present in contravention of such an order. The maximum sentence under the new laws has been increased from two years to 15. A person under a prohibition order can be searched by police at any time in any place. According to the government it is aimed squarely at the bikie gangs.

They manage ok I guess, the M5 and range rover will do, and the holiday house at moonta is a nice luxury, the three propertys in adelaide are nice aswell, not to mention $80k a year on boarding school fees's at the most expensive private schools in adelaide,ah I almost forgot the two boats......
I think they need some government handouts just to prop them up... As I said before, I am NOT generalising, this is my personal experience with the farmers I know,I am sure that some farmers are doing it tough as I said previously. But the one's I know are just as wealthy as most professional people know, and would be banking atleast $500k a year in profits. |

As far as boarding fees & so called flash cars ......... country kids get boarding scholarships that make it easy to pay nothing in schooling fees ....... I know my daughter was accepted to the top ag school here in NSW....... she didnt go by her choice as it was a long way from home but I would not have had to pay much at all ..... could have afforded it on a single parents pension ...... The city properties cover themselves & are a tax dodge no doubt at all ...... The cars aren't that flash ......... they would be attained cheaply in any rural area as they are by far not suited to a rural lifestyle ...... A landcruiser/prado would cost more than the rangie and they re known to be more reliable..... You obviously don't know the costs associated with getting the crops into the ground so you can enjoy your wheatbix but let say on a farm of 800 acres that has about 300 farmed to wheat, it has cost about $250k give or take just to get it (the crop) this far ....... then we have to pay to get it harvested ....... That also does not include the fact that the crop has some hail damage too so the value of the final product value will drop due to lack of substance. Please go have a proper working holiday at your rellys ..... you may just get a bit of real life lesson just as the people who refused to keep their dogs under control did. They may seem to have it all but trust me they dont ....... |

Yeah, dogs needed shooting. Two different stories as to how the farmer shot them. IF it was while the dogs were on his property. Bad luck "Rover". BUT if the bloke went over to next door and shot the dogs while in their yard, then yes they needed putting down but poor timing mate.
From the two stries though it would seem as if the owners cant get their story straight, they want the dogs remains back... but it was supposedly shot in their yard?! What was the cocky doing?! Walking onto the young couples property, stringing up the dogs on the telephone pole outside his house or something?! I thing the whinging couple need a reality check, and stop lying (if the papers are to be believed). Gen X - from end of boomers (I think '65 or something) Gen Y - '80 to 2000 Cant remember the name of the new gen... 2000 -

Id love to see someone try to shoot my dog, id remove their organs from the outside.
But then again, being a responsible dog owner, I wouldn't be in this position.

Shooting any animal is the definition of cowardice in my opinion, if you have a beef with any animal take it on with your hands, most humans are to gutless though, thats why we invented guns,to defeat physicaly superior mammals. |

Humans are the most self obsessed arrogant being's on the planet, that think every other living creature should just move it or lose. That dog had just as much right to live as the human that shot it. |

Not if it was destroying the poor guys livelyhood it doesnt. Like has been said, a dog that rips apart livestock, while quite easily rip apart a young child.

Oh dear, hear we go - drawing all the Crabs we can.
Man did invent fire arms to wage war more efficiently & adapted them further into society putting weapons generally to uses as varied as any murder and violence can attest. We could just as easy use a spear, stone axe, flint knife etc. We, as a species did all this because WE ARE the apex predator on this planet. It's all that simple really.

Wandering dogs are shot in my road very often by a famer down the road. I don't really agree with guns though and I also don't agree land should be wasted on a food no one needs like cows but I like cows more than dogs and I don't think hunting aminals like dogs and cats should be allowed out unsupervised.
Tonight I was outside admiring the flock of cockatoos that have made the area there home to sleep in at nights. They are no trouble they just fly in at night go to sleep and leave in the morning. So there I was just listening to them and watching them fly around the garden. It was just a lovely scene. Then BOOM BOOM BOOOM BOOM the neighbour let go with his shot gun and they all left. @#$# I so wanted to jump over the fence and punch him but hey he had a gun :p. But I was upset about it, I didn't think that was fair. I have another neighbour and when he goes on holiday his knobs of sons get his rifle out and start taking pot shots at anything that moves. This worries me even more because I can often hear the bullets ping off trees in my garden while I'm in there and there's also alot of rocks on the surface of the ground and alot bounce off. Being just 100 meters away from a rifle aimed in your direction is not the best of fun I usually call it quits for the day and go inside the house Last edited by greenfoam; 28-11-2008 at 03:15 AM. |

No 1. Call the cops on the idiots that are shooting into your yard, get their guns taken off them.
No 2. I like cows!! MMMMM Rib fillet, yummy. no 3. The dogs should have been shot. The farmer must have missed the second dog first time round to have to chase it to it's owners house. By the sound of the story, it wasn't the first time the dogs had been a problem. No 4. I wish I could shoot the neighbours cat. Dave. |
