It's kind of ironic that the Falcon is not doing well now. Remember how forward thinking Ford were back in 2005 when they introduced the ZF 6-speed auto? I mean, who else had 6-speeds back then aside from BMW?

Funny how all the critics are really upset by low sales results yet Ford, who stand to lose the most
are seemingly comfortable, even to the point of predicting possible production increases in 2012.

Maybe we should give them the benefit of the doubt for a few months more
and see how the new Territory fares in the market and the uptake of EcoLIP.
Those two elements may be responsible for a huge lift in sales in the comming months.

most of the experts critics on here won't be happy until the falcon reaches figures above 3000units/month. those days are gone, so the critics will just keep sticking the boots in until the end that they predict, happens, without realising they are contributing to the problem by continually bagging the car and the company at every opportunity.

meanwhile, the ford (not falcon) motor company continues to increase in sales of nearly every other model.

However Holden sells (actually no, Holden dealers license them) over 3000 Commodore variants per month so it does beg the question...why?

And yes...it's Ford Motor Company of Australia...not Falcon Motor Company of Australia.

If they can get switched on with good marketing pushes behind the new Focus and Territory things should hopefully take a turn for the better. Otherwise there will be lots of Ford dealers shutting their doors.

i know many don't agree, but i believe australians in general believe the holden is australian and throw their support behind it. many buyers of commodores wouldn't even research the competition. they'd just decide they'd like a new larger car and automatically go to a holden dealer.

hows that old jingle go? football, meatpies, kangaroos and holden cars!!

thats just my opinion.

i also don't believe there is any proof that there is a link between marketing and sales. if holden stopped advertising the commodore would it lose many sales? i actually rarely see commodore ads anywhere anyway. the camry/aurion get virtually no airtime and yet they still manage to sell an average amount of units every month. its just an easy thing for upset fans to point the finger at.

critisizing ford and falcon has been going on for over 10years now and falcon is still here, and is arguably the best falcon ever built.

Bar the touch screen and different air vent shapes the VEII is identical to VE.

Can't spot much the same between BF and FG, maybe the shifter.

And yes...it's Ford Motor Company of Australia...not Falcon Motor Company of Australia.
Remember when FG was released and I think it sold close to 3000 for the first few months and we were saying that was rubbish then. Now the Commodore is getting down to those figures so it is hurting too. Its always going to sell more though its just the way it is.

Give up, as they have the mondeo, just give it a V6, or a more poweful diesel.

I see Holden ads all the time, the fact that Commodore is selling above 3,000/mth
and Cruze is just below that says that Holden marketing is right on the money.

We should not be critisizing Holden because they have their act together,
they need to because their plant is geared for two shifts, Ford is not.

I would sooner Ford delay new product launches until problems are fixed
rather than push a faulty product onto buyers, that can only end badly.

We have to trust that Ford is doing the best it can with limited technical
and financial resources and give them a chance to sell their new products
before consigning local products to history....

Yeah Toyota is certainly feeling the impact now of the events in Japan. Only back in March this year they sold over 18000 vehicles for the month. This month they are down to 11000.

That they do.

Just looking through the tech section figures and the few things I noticed were that most Toyota models have had a fair decrease in sales since March. The only 2 that haven't are Hilux and Camry.

2011 is Toyota's lowest YTD since 2003, Fords lowest in more than 10 years amd Holdens 2nd lowest in atleast 10 years. The only one that was worse for Holden was the GFC hit 2009.

The second set of statistical data is also uploaded now.

It is interesting to note the drop in sales for Toyota but it would be reasonable to assume that it is more of a supply issue in their imported range than anything else although if it continues then that may well proive to be an invalid assumption.

not necessarily. thats just an assumption.

it may well be correct but i doubt we'd ever see evidence to confirm. dealers may ask the question when they sell a vehicle as to how the customer heard about the product, and thereby establish a trend for holden to work off, but it may simply be the badge on the front that attracts the masses.

i wonder how many 'non australians' buy holdens. its another question we'll never know the answer to but could be interesting nonetheless.

No, it's more than that.
I said marketing not advertising, advertising is only one of many tool available.
A marketing strategy can be word of mouth, racing cars, promotional events ect.. all add to car sales.
marketing also means research and knowing your target audience and giving them what they want.

From where I see Holden did what they needed to going forward with a two shift plant,
Ford may well be doing the same thing with its single shift plant, we don't know yet.....
