Well after spending most of yesterday at a local Toyota dealer, my mum purchased her first new car with a 1.9%
Also managed to remove 1.5k from the asking price, so yeah there is still room to bargain. Repayments were a lot less then i was expecting thats for sure.

Just thinking outside the box, but what if, as a gimmick, a manufacturer offered -0.5% interest. Ie. they pay YOU the interest over the 3 years, (after which the fine print may suggest it reverts to a positive interest rate)
It may work on a car that they'd like to sell for say $30k, but offer it at $35k -0.5% interest. (So over 3 years the manufacturer will make less than the original sale price, but obviously enough to generate a profit) |

also... As the official interest rate in the US is 0.25% so 0% + fees in Australia means bigger margins. And most of Europe is in debt so just getting the principal back in Australia is better than a default in Greece.

Havent read all the posts here.
But as a trial I walked into a Toyota dealership in East Melbourne. I was able to bargain down a Camry Atara R limited edition to 28500 driveaway on 0% finance. So there is room to move. I also work for Citibank and the research department seems to think alot more car companies will most likely start offering 0% finance, especially (toyota, Ford and GM) as they are now essentially banks as they have very large lending/credit department (globally).

I dont think it wouldn't do Ford any harm to go low interest even if it cut into their profits a bit, it might give them some consumer confidence if they were to start selling a couple of thousand Falcons in a month.
All that is said in the media and on forums like this one is doom and gloom My 2c worth

Deals like that goin around and the monthly payments its gunna hurt used car sales with higher interest rates, specially if people can afford new With the deals around ,altho pricy at the dealer, ill be certainly considering wether to buy a used territory or goin another brand at a better finance rate and getting a spankin newie Itll all boil down to the monthly payments,if new is only a smidge more a month ,ill be goin new |

If Ford did offer 0% which models would it apply to (Hint: Not Australian made) Who would be the credit facility that Ford would use?
