Weather Ford makes a profit on the RHD development cost is open for debate but there's no doubt, the Mustang is putting Fords name in front of our faces which is free, positive marketing for them and I'm sure the dealers selling them are quite happy. |

Most people I know don’t know diddly squat about the new Mustang as they have no interest in cars other than as transport and they do the human thing and switch off to any advertising that doesn’t interest them. |

I don't think any other American manufacturer has a brand name as recognised as Mustang either.

You could ask the tribe that's been living in isolation near Sri Lanka and they'd know what a Mustang was.

When I was a young fellow one of the cars of appeal was the Caddie long before the Mustang showed its head.

I'd say a lot of muscle car dudes and car enthusiasts and people in general the world over would like the idea of being that Steve mcqueen type beihind the wheel of a mustang, while a caddy might be a nice cruiser especially for us older folk, it doesn't really conjure up being a fun car like a mustang does.

I know I’d go for a muscle car any day over a Caddie (no disrespect to the tank lovers) but that doesn’t mean a Cadillac isn’t an iconic brand that has been around in the car world for almost forever. I’ll now throw up the Corvette as another recognised Yank car that has been lusted over by many and I would guess members could think of others. I just think making a statement like ‘I don’t think any other American manufacturer has a brand name as recognised as Mustang’ isn’t giving credit to some other makes. I would have said the Mustang is among a very small handful of iconic American brands that would be instantly recognisable in most parts of the world. |

Bet the Mustang would. I wouldn't recognise an unbadged caddie if it ran me over. |

Ask anyone to name a current Cadillac. Then when they most likely couldn't name one ask them who makes Mustang. No other badge would come close for recognition anywhere in the world. They don't even put a Ford badge on the thing because they don't need to.

This evening while I was out the front talking to my father-in-law and two neighbours about how well our lawns were going this year I decided to ask them knowing they had no interest what’s so ever in cars if they could name a well-known model of car made in America.
I got Buick from my father-in-law and Corvette and Chevrolet from the neighbours. I pointed out Buick and Chevrolet were Brands not models but that was the best they could do. I think some people here believe because they have an interest in cars that so do others which is a long way from true, most people will give ‘out of left field’ answers that would suit a game of Family Feud. So I’ll leave you to believe that everyone on the planet’s first thought when they think American car is Mustang as it doesn’t hurt to dream on. . Last edited by Express; 06-12-2015 at 03:04 AM. |

I get stopped all the time when I'm in my Mustang by people wanting to look at it or talk about it. No one has ever mistaken it for something other than a Mustang, yet it has never been sold/advertised here, never been in a high profile movie, and has very discreet badging. |

Agree, many will turn off but it's going to reach more non car people than an XR8 or GT etc as it's an iconic vehicle. Like Magpie, I owned a Mustang (68 GT) here in Aus and everywhere I went, I was quite often approached by all sorts of people, old, young, male female all recognising it. Well you go to Vegas or Orlando and just see what all the international tourists are renting. You see a crap load of Mustangs. You can always spot the rentals. Most of the time, they are not the GT and have a barcode on the window. Obviously most people don't even care it's a V6.

For people in the know - can you still order a Mustang as apparently it is sold out for 2016. That would mean 2017 delivery ?

Current order bank as of today stands around 4000, approximately 400 are coming in every month until orders catch up. I would say if you ordered one tomorrow you should see it towards the end of 2016 pending there are no supply or product issues and all goes to plan.

Rubbish...Corvettes been around a lot longer and with far more rightly or wrong connotations towards "performance" to most middle-aged Americans,Mustang was nothing more than a smaller car for her indoors to drive on its conception.

Was predominantly a hairdressers car in base form, but also designed to be gender neutral, at its original concept. Pretty sure it was positioned as a 'pony car', whatever that means, and never really bragged of being a 'muscle car'. Clean lines, practical interior, and did away with the outrageous fins and wings of the 50s

What has that got to do with brand recognition? Right now there's only one of them sold right around the world and it isn't the Corvette.

Mmm not so sure the 86 is an ugly hairdresses car, the mustang should hold value pretty well.
