Sound quality is way down on her list.

Agree, but for the sake of ease i think it's a brilliant idea.

GasOlane's grandaughter will be up and running with a few songs in minutes, without having to endure grandpa swearing and abusing the computer as he learns how to manage remote devices in windows etc etc....

Doubt it's that hard? Depends. To get my new device to work with the computer, i had to install new activesync. No dramas, got a copy with the device. Try to install... oh, needs XP SP2. No dramas, get a copy from the boss. Oh - doesnt like the install i have of XP... need to mess around with some boot disk to change the product ID (im using a "developer" version of XP).

Either way... wouldnt have wanted small children within earshot when i was working through that

Grandpa can rip and name tracks properly some time after new years lol...

Go for a IRIVER. I have a 40Gig one, which you can store about 8000 songs on it. You can even upload movies to it and watch them, great for traveling on teh plan when on Virgin.

battery lasts about 4 hours, but you to get a battery adaptor that yo can plug 4 AA batteries into and get a couple of extra hours as a back up.

Not the type you get with the ipod,
but the other ones that you can buy
seperately.

for me it was what other functions its got i have a iriver 256 that i use for work its got radio for when i get sick of what i put on it plus i can get around 20hrs of use from 1 rechargeable AA battery so i can change the bat if it dies coz i didn,t put it on charge the night b4 like some of the other brands with a built in battery. sound quality is excellent plus i change the encoding to 64kbps on mp3pro(same as normal cd with no quality loss) with a program called musicmatch jukebox and i,ve had mine for nearly 2 years and used it every day with not 1 problem

Well, not sure to be honest. Never heard them. I have a pair of sony earphones and I think they are awesome. But that will always depend on the person listening to them.

Default iPod rocks

I have 2 ipods and have never looked back since

Last xmas my wife bought me a 30gig 5th gen iPod with video and the Kensington digital FM transmitter. Video quality is fine but is a battery drainer, good for a short flight or laying in the spa.
Then as soon as the 2nd gen 2gig NANO was released i had it preordered.

Why the two? The NANO for the gym, running, cycling and even mowing the lawns. The 30gig is used in the car (no cd's floating around), used in the home hifi, shed hifi and last but not least plugged in to my PC monitor at work for decent music - i dislike radio.

I bought 3 sets of left/right RCA's to a 3.5MM plug for use in the hifi's.

I've had NO problems with either and have a few mates with them, my brother and sister have them and only one mate had an issue as soon as it come out the box which Apple replaced on the spot.

Itunes i find so simple to use and had no problems with PC or laptop.

Standard ear buds are ok but i replaced mine for a decent set of Sennheisers.

This is the iPod video mounted in the ute.

In the BF i have the Ford Aux input which IMO is over rated, but does the job.

Alan.

This had me thinking.. See as how there will always be Mac fanboys and Microsoft as well - where are the Linux GPL mp3 player distros? Maybe I should start flooding Novell forums with requests for a SUSE mp3 player..

There's a distro of linux for all the iPods (bar the 2nd Gen Nano, which is the one I have). : http://www.ipodlinux.org/Main_Page
I think there's also a distro of linux people use for booting off an iPod as a portable hard drive. Oh iPod, how I love you (and hate your software)

Boss 260 Ute, don't go for a shuffle, really not worth it for the money, in terms of space or features. It's small, but not really that great besides being small. The nano's great on the other hand.
An 8GB nano is really an amazing little thing. The Flash memory means it's remarkably resilient (you'll crack the screen but it'll still play if you accidentally throw it out the window of a car and run it over afterward) Hell, it can even survive the wash. iTunes is a little ***** though. I hate it.:

Note: I also still love my creative Zen touch. It's not quite so small and portable and durable though.

Thanks but I think I might get one because all I would use it for is:
listening to for about 20-30 minutes when i'm riding until I find one of my mates,
in school,
while catching public transport to and from school,
and while bored at home sometimes.

I got a 8 Gig nano, its amazing love it, i hate Itunes though, it doesnt go the best with Vista, not sure if its just my machine. In saying that there are hundreads of different software other than ITunes that does the job better

I couldn't live without mine. I do a lot of driving during the day and it's great to have your entire music library on there and an AUX jack on your stereo.

I download the Howard Stern show daily and listen to it when I'm in the car or exercising. My iPod is the only reason why I still do my current job or exercise :P

I have an iPod, I walk to and from school listening to it every day. At the moment I have an 80GB video, and before that I had a 512MB Version 1 shuffle. The shuffle sounds better than the video, the the video has... video! And many stortages!

I've got an iPod 60GB Video.

I didn't want the video (I don't use it) but it was the best bang for your buck 60gb mp3 player around at the time, so I was obligated.

But overall, I love it. Great piece of equipment.

I have a 30GB ipod video. i cant live without it. i have around 7 gigs of songs on it. this thing is great for video sure the screen is small but id does store alot of videos. i currently have all episodes of family guy, American dad, My name is earl and heroes plus a couple of movies. The only problem with it is i cant stand itunes. it wii be so much better if it was drag and drop compatible. Also i wish i got the 80gig version.

i dont see why someone will get the 8 gig nano when its the same price as the video tho.

Size.

I wish I had a larger iPod (or mp3 player) though. Mine is full to the brim.

I cant remember where I found it, but i searched for tips on how to make Itunes easier. There are a few options to change and all you do is plug in Ipod, rip songs and drag them into the ipod folder and done. Ends up easy!

Surely as easier question would be who does NOT have an ipod!!!

I have 20gb plugged into the Bose docking system for home, and the nano for running and travelling

I have an iPod I think its a 30gb it is definately black and oblong. But if you have a late model ford (my ute is a BA) for $78 the local dealer courtney & patterson fitted a link to factory stereo and now I have a 2000 stacker instead of 6 stacker. very cool.

It all works through the steering wheel etc. It is not as comprehensive as the benz system but $78.....
