Good poll with some interesting results, its like a wave, raising towards the XB, dropping off a bit plumeting with the AU1 then continuing upwards and skyrocketing at the BF.

I really couldnt decide on a definate model that stands out for me, Id be happy with any of them. But I picked the XB, just love the unmatched aussie muscle car appeal of it.

For the EA voters this is not a pick on question. Just curious on why you voted for it? Is it because you own one which defeats the whole purpose to the thread? If I was to vote for the EA it would be because I believe it was the very first of the new generation Fords (even if there was a few lemons). I owned one (until a Holden ran a red light) and it was a very reliable car.

IN MY OPINION!!!,

XY for the GTs, XB for the coupes and XC for the Cobra. MMM

XF for the Air Con, EB for the shape and the prime, EL for the best E-series Futura, GT and LTD.

AU2/3 for the reliabilty, comfort and (hell I'll say it) sexiness, and BF for the front of the XT/Futura, smooth, quiet and poweful ride, as well as the ZF 6 speed, premium ICC, and the sexiness of the FPVs. (Turbos, especially).

I overlooked the BA, but given the oppurtunity to vote again, I would include it. The BA saved Ford, and it shows that in comparison to Holden, Ford can make double the car for half of the cost.

My heart will always pump royal blue blood.

AUII/III XR & T series. By far one of the most agressive, sexy cars ever built by Ford Australia. Still wouldn't say no to an XW or XY though, XA coupe would be nice too...

The following because,
XP, first model to standup to Aussie conditions, and prove it with 70,000 miles run.
XR, intro of V8 and GT models plus Mustang style
XA-XC Hardtops, just one of the "Fattest" looking cars ever
XD, first model to beat Holden to the No 1 Sales spot in Australia
EB, comeback for the V8 engines
BA, by results, the best race car Ford has had in Aust.

My criteria went something like this:
Non polution model
Model came standard with a 351C and 9"
Could work on it myself

This narrows it down to a late XW, XY, XA and early XB. In GT spec fitted with a manual, they all had the same motor.

Mmmm.
Silver fox XWGTHO PHII with Orange strips
Vermillion fire XYGTHO PHIII with Black stripes
Pepper Red XAGT RPO83 2 door with Black paint-outs
Burnt Orange XB 4 door with Walnut Glow paint-outs

I luv them all but if their market value was discounted, I'd chose the XA because it had more room under the bonnet, was fitted with a Holley and seat belts all round and had drum rear brakes, which I prefer in a street car.

I gave the EA a vote because it was such a big advancement over the previous models. It also laid the foundation for a platform that would be used until 1998, as well as introducing the very underrated I6 engine and laid down some quick times when mated with a T5 (and MPFI).

The EB was a vast upgrade and improved the looks tenfold through very minor cosmetic changes. All it took were some changes to the rear lights and garnish, moving a badge on the bonnet a couple of centimetres and deleting the c-pillar vents.

It's the XD for me, not the most advanced, crap economy and certainly not the quickest, but with the right stance these things define tough street in my eyes.

I have seen some mega tough ones in mags and at shows.
One in particular was called Black Betty in some random tough fords mag I seem to have a collection of - tough as street car!
When I saw this car, the looks did it. This is the car for me.

An XD with a 351, black of course!
One day...

The XD is high up for me because of the sheer amount of R&D that went into the car by Ford Australia to bring out a product that had great advantages over the opposition.

I dnt think the F6 is the fastest Australian production sedan , ur forgetting about the VE HSV GTS - 0-100 in 5.02(auto)(4.96 for man)sec, F6 typhoon 0-100 in 5.4sec.
I would still opt for the typhoon tho, rather the DOHC than pushrods!

I was tossing up between the car that started it all and the car that saved Ford Oz. The egg won, just love the old style of the XR

The Ba/BF for me.
I like the EA aswell (for those who don't).
It's been good to me, except the head gasket, cracked radiator, distributor, multiple cracked hoses, It just comes with a old car,
LOL

Come on guys, can you really say that if you saw a genuine pristine XY GTHO parked next to any of the other models, you wouldn't drool over the HO?

If it was next to a BF Typhoon... yeah i'd be all over the BF. The only thing exciting about an XY GTHO to my generation is the price tag.

I voted BA - major turning point and as already said, it brought respect back to Ford.

Xe was actually the first ford to beat holden in sales.

That being said,if I voted with my heart it would be for the xb's,but I think the best falcon to come out of ford so far is the au,also the most underated.

Give me a BFII F6 Typhoon Six-Speed auto over an XY GT-HO PhaseIII any day thanks. Why?

Its faster, much faster, for a start. It handles better. It brakes better. You can drive it on a daily basis. Its more comfortable, it has climate control, it has a good stereo....

Its not an old, rare collectable that's irreplaceable that one would be too scared to drive for fear of anything happening to it. I'd hate to have a car like that. I like to drive cars, not gawk at them in a garage. Or at a show. Probably why I don't like show cars or car shows like that, except the Sydney Motorshow and events like that where you can actually see and touch brand new cars. So yeah, I wouldn't drool over the GT-HO, I'd say, "Wow, what a nice car," as I've done many times in the past, and leave it at that.

Don't take the magazines too seriously. Typhoon's are in the high to mid 12's 1/4 mile stock, and with the trap speeds they show, could potentially be even faster then that with the right rear end setup (ie: better grip, better ability to launch etc). The VE is... not as fast. Period.

They're great if you want a general idea of how a car drives, and also the opinion of whatever journalist wrote the article.

For professionally done performance times (by that I mean recorded by professional drivers), best look elsewhere. The times they record are beaten on a daily basis by not so special drivers (I myself have smashed Motor's Fiesta time by 5 tenths and I'm nothing special... was at WSID for fun, 17.252 @ 77.98 mph (yeh I know its slow), their best is 17.75).

AUII/III here.
wife has a II XR8. best car ive ever driven.

BA would be close to the bottom in my list.
my II XR8 ute is a problem child. if it could go wrong, it has.

really luv the XR-XT styling. much cleaner than the XW-XY IMO, but i wouldnt knock an XW-XY GT back either.

the XE ESP is another fav too. had 1 years ago.
the XD ESP isnt far behind too.

and the EL GT is in there somewhere as well.

god damn... id better build a bigger shed!!
