If Malaysian Airlines kept up to date maintenance records and as stated, the tags and stamping are still in place, it will be fairly easy to identify through the aircraft's service history.
Nearly all parts on an aircraft are a serviceable items. During regular servicing or maintenance every part of the procedure including opening, removing, servicing, inspection, and replacement parts used are normally logged and signed for against the aircraft's service history along with tradesmen, trade supervisor, independent inspector doing that particular job on every single item.
If the panel or part for what ever reason is replaced, the new serial numbers on the panel are recorded in the service log. The same thing happens with other interchangeable replacement items such as various pumps, engines etc etc.
This is one of the reasons why various air authorities world wide seize the maintenance records of downed aircraft immediately they're made aware of an accident. It helps to see what was serviced and by who, identify the aircraft's particular componentry and to stop people from changing any logged information before an investigation.

Wouldn't be hard to grab a flaperon (sounds like a relative of flappist) and dip it in the ocean somewhere for a few months then whammy... Convenient evidence.

My fault. I shouldve clarified that the word 'confirmed' was used on Tens evening news.

time is 8 am Friday and they are saying the part number and it look like 90% it is the right part

but it does not help in finding the aircraft

I wonder what is the bill for the search up to now ?

haha, been waiting for this path or similar to be taken.

My thought was they will sieze this opportunity and claim the part is from Flight370, whether it is or not, allowing people to believe the plane did in fact crash to the sea and thats that.
All good until something else is found later on, exposing this "find" and investigation to be a fabrication

With all the personnel involved in multiple countries & the part going to France, you could not get everyone to agree to such "conspiracy", not to mention the serial numbers are unique to the actual aircraft, per part.

When some of the tin foilers were suggesting MH17 in Ukraine was this one the eyes rolled faster than the tyres of a worked F6. Airframe build dates are also stamped all over the plane parts.

Hope we see a proven result by tonight or Sunday, however it looks very much like this is a 777 flaperon by looking closely at the angles & rivets etc.

Obviously it is possible it was planted but what advantage is that if no conclusive verdict can be reached. It would be near impossible to fake any identifiable marks.

Anyone of reasonable thinking knows it crashed but obviously relatives and friends still hold hopes of a different outcome. Hopefully this may be some peace for them.

There will be a great deal of checking to confirm that is from that flight before anyone commits. Can you imagine providing confirmation and then having to withdraw that statement later?

this may be there one and only chance of fame and there are the ones who will do or say any thing for that chance of 2 seconds of fame

so with every find they will have to be very careful and look at what has been found and where

It only took them 18 hours to find Bin Laden. That entire decade they devoted to locate and exterminate him were just for laughs. They knew where he was but they thought it would be funny to troll global security agencies.

Same as you cant tell me they didnt know where James "Whitey" Bulger was either for his 20+ years on the run. Especially when he was living in downtown LA.

Yep, at the bottom of the ocean most likely.

So I throw on the conspiracy hat, and as said way earlier in this thread, some countries military knows where this plane went down, but kept mum top ensure no-one knows what part of the world they can track.
