I don't think the power restrictions would really help much though. if some one wants to "hoon" they'll do it in any car they're given.

Hold on, the real point here is that you are much more likely to see a crumpledoore doing a burnout than any falcon. Actually, evidence suggests that you are also more likely to see a crumpledoore in a crash; but I digress.

Dopey ad. Appeals to people who don't like young guys speeding. Seems "edgy" while being completely not. Your'e talking about a generation that grew up playing video games way more graphic than anything we'll see on TV here. |

Hey that ad was gold for Ford as they cant show burnouts on their car ads!
My missus loved the BA doing the burnout and now wants to go smoke up the Fairmont like that : real smart RTA real freakin smart! Maybe somebody should make a reply commercial where the driver does the burnout and gives people the middle finger or when the girls pull the pinkie its ridiculously long and flops on the ground. Apparently the ad was designed by a youth commitee headed by some young chick who knew someone who crashed or something and a bunch of TAFE students with the majority not actually owning a liscence. Thanks for wasting my tax money. Maybe if you didn't tax people so much they could actually afford to make their car roadworthy and if you took away those stupid V8 and turbo laws they would buy a descent car. most p platers I know are driving shitboxes and waiting till they get off their P's so as to go out and buy a HSV or wrx or something. Near where I live they were going to build a drag strip but the do gooders shot it down for some strange reason and for some reson street racing is REALLY high?? |

Some old bag gave the the pinky today........ But I wasnt even doing anything... pretty sure 50s the limit, and I didnt floor it or chirp my tyres. For once I was driving perfectly normally. Sorry old bag, I'll remove my exhaust, and raise my car back up just for you.
But still, old lady must have felt good about giving a P plater the pinky. |

I once was a hoon... I now drive a truck and am labled a menace... You outta see some of the crap i see day in day... people dont think (i never used to). In the last 2 years of being a Trucky ive seen 3 people killed (one i was the first to stop) on our roads in stupid pointless accidents easilly avoidable... im that guy in the truck that sits on 90kph down the freeway and you all ***** and whinge because im going too slow... ya know what DEAL WITH IT, Also, i can see alot further ahead than you (for i sit up alot higher) but i still mantain my safe distances because I CANT THINK FOR YOU... I leave Massive gaps infront of me but as soon as someone sees it... there goes my gap the have to be in it. You know what one of the worst things people in cars do, THEY DONT ****IN LOOK. We all have eyes, all ya gotta do is use them oow gap ill jump in there 80% of the time i dont think people see whats in or arround that gap all they know is that it will get then home 1.3 seconds earlier.
Please guys SLOW DOWN... Remember my life is in your hands P.S. I also believe that if you kill someone on the road because YOU are doing the wrong thing YOU should be the one to break the news to their family, You have just killed there Husband, Wife, Son, Daughter what ever it may be.

Now having said that, IF I have room, I'll move, no big deal, but I'm not going to have an accident over it. My first wife once suggested I have sticker like the fighter pilots on the side of the car for roadkill. LOL. But that was squirrels and bunnys and a Porcupine (Hit that sucker dead on on a gravel road one night at 130 km/h. LOL) and birds and stuff.

Personally I don't get this ad. I mean, it's got NOTHING to do with speeding and everything to do with stupidity!! So, what's the point? Don't pass? Well, if you drive THAT badly you shouldn't DRIVE!!!!!! Anyone who would do that is oblivious to their surroundings and sorry, I don't use panic as an excuse. It's a DOG!! You don't crash into another car over a DOG!! Be AWARE!! The problem is that drivers are UNAWARE and this commercial DOES bring that out but in the wrong way. I once came around a corner on glare ice at a mere 50-70 km/h and a deer was in the middle of the road. Did I panic? No. I yanked the handbrake and hit reverse and spun the car around it. Don't panic, REACT!!! They did a study here recently where they asked drivers how they react in an accident and the majority admitted to CLOSING THIER EYES!!!!!!! Now to be fair, I drive for a living and react before I even know what I'm reacting TOO. I laughed at myself (So did my wife when I told her.) when I suddenly hit the brakes and realized that it was a moth reflecting in the headlights!! LOL. I'd reacted before assessing that there was nothing there. Point is most people are CLUELESS about how to avoid an accident. Here we just got "Anti street racing" legislation where the cops can have your car towed out of your driveway if it's modded because you "intend" to street race it!! And we don't even HAVE street racing here!!!!! We DO have graduated licensing which was crammed down our throats in yet another "doing something" move. Which of course makes WORSE drivers then ever before!! But still no real driver training!!

Relax mate, the comment was made in jest, not to upset anyone on the forums and not to be taken that seriously. For eons Australian men have laughed about cats and the alleged horrible things to do to them but reality suggests a lot of tongue in cheek. The majority of us wouldn't hurt or torture an animal, but we can make a joke inferring bravado.

With hooning, I think prevention will not happen until people are caught doing the wrong thing. If people are caught being complete tools, sell their car with 50% returning to the driver and 50% towards TAC, as well as a free tour of an accident trauma centre at a hospital where the stupid person can see the result of fooling about.
Also, tear up their license for 3 years, while to be eligible to regain it, they must participate in a driver course to better learn how to properly use a vehicle and understand its limits. A silly little commercial isn't going to chance jack. People are not going to watch it and say, "So THAT'S what I've been doing wrong. Gee, aren't I a naughty little munchkin!" People will always do what they want on the road. The best way to stop it is to be overbearingly hard and let people know the consequences of irresponsibility (via media -do it for months before the new legislation) so that when they are caught, there is no excuse for ignorance. |

This forum seems to be split two ways with (no offence) the oldies saying lets make the p platers be o their p's for 25 years and be restricted to driving 3 cylinder 800cc hatches at no more than 20 km/h while the young people are saying-Go get stuffed!!
Look there will always be accidents you can't avoid it it's called human error and if someone has more human error than someone else than it's there own damn fault. Fine statistics show that P platers crash disproportionally more. So what?? Statistics show that Commodores crash disproportionately more than other cars, are they going to ban Commodores? Heres an idea? If your a Asian, Queenslander, Pensioner on your P Plates driving a four wheel drive home from the bowling club on the way to pick your kids up from soccer whilst talking on a mobile phone and considering whether to buy Bundaberg Rum or Goon than you automatically lose your licence! |

Why can we show people dying for non smoking ads, for the moment some one wants to show it for a speeding ad everyone gets upset? speeding kills probably just as many people as smoking. there has been a lot of good points made here in these last 5 pages but none of these will ever be heard by the right people (polliticians). A friend of mine is the driver of the celica, and did get paid a lot of money to do this ad. I still stand that license tests should be harder and if you fail more than 3 times you have to go to an advanced driver trainer. L's are a joke, go sit a multiple question test then you can drive. why not be like the USA, yes do a road safety and knowledge test but also do a training seminar on clossed roads to learn the basics of driving before your allowed on the road. when you pass that then you spend 12 months on you L's gaining experience on the road not learning how to drive the car. P's first test should then be as it is now but with an advanced driving course included. P's second test should then resit a knowledge test followed by a tough driving test, not just stop at a stop sign, reverse park and do a three point turn. Yes they have improved the testing a little in the last few years, but restricting capacity restricts ability, everyone should be able to learn in cars with different power levels, these restrictions only mean that we have drivers with some knowledge of how to drive a hyundai with 20kw's jumping into cars with 300kw's and no idea of what to do when they lose control of those 300kw's. How often have people on this forum had there car slid unexpectedly because they used a little too much loud pedal. a car with 20kw's can be driven like a tap power on or off and nothing between. a car with 300 kw's needs more attention than that, needs to be eased on, or results shrink your genitals. the government needs to wake up, stop wasting taxpayers money on crap! start projects that will help not that cause people to talk about them so they must work.
Anyway my 20c worth. |

I'd also like to know how the advertising agency convinced the cops to let them video a VL driven by a 'young hoon' purpously getting broadside on a public road, with 3 other people in the car, and no visible safety equipment, bar seat belts.
That's a 48 hour confiscation and court appearance normally, why so different for the RTA? P.S. I would have PAID to be the driver of the XR or the VL in that ad! |

Just the phone alone should be license cancelled!! They should dump graduated licensing (both there and here), get a REAL test and if you fail 3 times be banned from ythe roads for life. All drivers over 30 should be retested, (I'm willing to bet 85% would fail even the joke of a so-called driving test they have NOW!!) and drivers that drive UNDER the limit should be taken off the roads.

Even every 5 years is good. More than that would just be a tax grab. Doing it without making a REAL test would also be a tax grab. Graduated licensing WAS a tax grab. From what I understand from one young guy on my own forum, I'm not so sure if I were that age now I would even bother GETTING a license!!
He told me even WITH graduated licensing, he spent 8 hours on a simulator and only 4 "incar". Even HE said "How can I learn to DRIVE on a video game?" And at 17, and owning a Mustang, his insurance will be skyhigh yet statistics consistantly prove that over age 65 drivers are the HIGHEST accident rates!! But of course it's politics and if they go after the older crowd they lose their power base. As I've said before. The main reason we got graduated licensing was "well, they have it in Australia.". I kid you not!! It was a recurring theme and none of the sheep said "So? What's THAT got to do with anything?" :

ahh your a bunch of whingers what want your point to be seen as the correct one...
When i was previewed this add at work before it was aired AT all, and all the grumps and everyone there agreed with it.. You people read too much into these days seriously... The add is aimed at making the driver aware that their actions ARE watched and people dont think that its cool... Its there to make Drivers aware that what they do is not cool, and people dont appreciate it. The RTA is trying to make such behavior known as the incorrect behaviour. Yes we all know it is.. but sometimes visual reminders are needed.... like i said b4. your all a bunch of whingers and just want want want... how about get off your A$$ and do something about.. Lead by example.. jeez i wonder what would happen if every one on this forum didnt do anything ridiculous AT ALL...
