No way there is not a chance in hell i would take my car back there, I would prefer to pay the extra to have my car respected.. The old saying gose "what u got is all ya got"... I am so fussy with whom I take my car to.. It just shows in this day and age there is no respect for anyone's property..

take a photo of the black marks and ask him if they look familiar, when you go back in, then blast him.

Geezuz, I know every mechanic that jumps in your car is going to thrash it, but to actually see it is another story! :

I have a Ford dealer that does my warranty work and he knows how I treat my cars and what is expected from them if they work on any of my cars. I also make it very clear that my car is not to be road tested by anyone, for whatever reason.

In the early nineties I had a pretty nice XF that required a changeover transmission. The workshop manager rang me and said that it was all finished and that it was ready to be road tested. He asked me if I’d mind if he drove to one of his other workshops a few suburbs away and picked up a few small parts during the road test. I didn’t mind and thanked him for his honesty, as he could have just gone ahead and driven there anyway.

There are plenty of good mechanics out there, it’s just a matter of finding them.

Hey Danny, can you actually specify and make them agree not to test drive cars after working on them, what about when they want to confirm noises etc from the car on the road.
This is the biggest problem for me leaving my car at ford when they do the first service, I cant stand the thought of someone thrashing my new car!

Mate if I'd have seen my car being treated like that I would have immediately gone back to the garage, waited for him to come back, then have it out with him to voice my....belting him?..well you'd feel like it but not a wise move.... Definately a consumer affairs case and i wouldn't be going back

I basically just tell them. If there’s no reason to road test it, it’s not to be done and I couldn’t care less for their 1500km inspection, road test. On occasions I’ve taken a mechanic with me for a quick spin and they were cool with that.

It would be priceless to see his face.

being a mechanic its sad to hear this stuff is going on, I have never done a burnout or gotten a customers car sideways. I have on occasion given a car a little bit of gas to see how it would go (and would think others do that to my car when they have it) but thats as far as i have gone. I would hate someone else to thrash or even worse crash my car so thats how i treat other peoples cars. I would just have a word to him, tell him you saw him and let him know how much the tyres cost etc. If he apologises and seems genuinely sorry its up to you what happens next. If he is a d&^k about it dont go back. He will miss your money!

the only time someone should give something a beating is if they're going to buy a car from the sales yard and want to get a feel before (or) if they buy... ahh the good times lol.

I always thought it was only legal if you do not use it as evidence, but are able to record a person without telling them .. then replay it and write down everything?

Don't use the cops just to get a rise out of someone.
Tell the cops it's your car and what when etc. They might pay a visit on your behalf. They might not.
Faced with a please explain by cops, the mechanic might pull a line like 'customer won't pay the bill', a heresay situation comes up but you have highground if you've been honest from the get go.
Pay your bill, take your business elsewhere and especially don't get yourself locked up over what sounds like ultimately a couple mm off your tread. Yeah it sucks and makes me cringe to think what's happened to my cars but hey without pix you've got nix dude.

Legal advice to me was you cannot record someone else without making them aware of the fact that you are recording them.

In NSW, if 50% of the parties involved in the recording know that they are being recorded, it is legal and admissable at evidence.

Ever noticed when you get pulled over by coppers, they only tell you are being recorded if you have someone in the car with you? They record everything...

one thing id like to point out to people who check there dte reading after picking up the car... idleing the car will send that figure through the roof faster than thrashing it so just bear that in mind. if the battery has needed to be disconnected for some reason the numbers will obviously change faster. if a coolant change has been done for instance then the car will be idled for around 5 mins to bleed the cooling system and 5 mins at 99L/100km will add to your dte reading.
