Good comment.

I want him to stay clean, (although a poster here says that's not even happening) and play good footy, to be an example of forgiveness and redemption.

I do however, have a sinking feeling that it will all go pear shaped for Ben.

I am more than happy to be wrong on that one of course.

It sure must be so darn hard though, to be so in the public eye, to have everyone pour over every aspect of your life. I guess that's the price of fame.

I wonder how I'd cope with that level of pressure and scrutiny?

who the hell said we were standing up for Staker? i'm a Richmond supporter, and have VERY little time for the Eagles.

But if you think you could get up after a punch like that then, im sorry you're obviously tougher than a conditioned athlete and should probably be playing AFL... How you got overlooked in the draft i'll never know!

We agree on one thing- i don't care what he does in his own time, the only people that should be concerned is the team that is paying his wage.

HE HAS NEVER BEING FOUND WITH DRUGS IN HIS SYSTEM WHILST PLAYING OR OTHERWISE, UNLIKE SIX PLAYERS WHO HAVE BEEN CAUGHT TWICE (CRAWFORD AND FRANKLIN WHO HAVE JUST WON A PREMIERSHIP)
SO WHY IS HE TREATED DIFFERENT??
Yes i am, Ben chooses to associate with known criminals that have strong ties to Drug's and other activities in WA and also chooses to spend time in Clubs/ Pubs that these people have a interest in.

Some of the more memorable Ben highlights off the top of my head!
cocaine binge in the USA
Leaving a Car and running from Police.
Questioned about a underworld shooting (denied even being in the aria, woops we have video footage of you)
Ex team mate overdoses Ben was the last person to see him.
Being watched by the WA Police Drug squad.

After all that and more, and countless warnings the WCE sack him, Yep he's never had a second chance. Anyone in WA who isn't a one eyed Football Nut and knows people around the traps know all about Cousins.

If this guy wasn't a AFL footballer (and yes he is a good one) people would have a very different vue of him.

I recieved a SMS this week. Here it is:

What does a Tasmanian Virgin and the Richmond Football Club
have in common ?

They will both be F$@^#D by cousins.

Now, i find that offensive as i love Tasmania and the people
down there are great.

As for the footy side of it, meh, he had his chance and he blew it,
or snorted it.

Bring in 1 strike and you're out.
He knew he was a high profile sports figure in the public eye,
yet he still chose to go down this path.

I have a philosophy in my work ethic for success:

BITE OFF MORE THAN YOU CAN CHEW, AND CHEW LIKE HELL.

It works if you want it to.

Cousin's will fail as he deserve's to.

That list look similar to Alan Didak's 'resume'

But he only got a slap on the wrist...even after lying to the face of Eddie McGuire.

so what are you saying he is now a drug dealer and murderer?

I agree that WCE gave him many chances and that he has a drug problem i also agree with the others that say that his performances will be down and it is WCE or Richmonds best interest that he is drug free.

BUT as far as the AFL is concerned he has never played with drugs in his system so therefore under the AFL drug code he has never had a first chance

As far as knowing underworld figures- have you ever tried telling these guys to off? I bet your a real pussy cat in real life, these people are not to be told anything, can you imagine saying " look mate your bad for my image" to them? If you believe you can do this then you have led a sheltered ignorant life or maybe your a big thug yourself.

I just wanna see the best players on the field i do not care what they do off the field that is for the police and thier clubs to worry about.

In fact what about a prison comp Pentridge v's Long Bay

I think it's time to end it.
Like him or not, Cousins has earned a second chance at Richmond.

Let's wish him luck, and get on with our own lives. Yay! :

So your saying, going to work after going out on the hung over more than 2 times during your employment and your out? Drinking is no different to drugs in the way it effects the human body. The difference is that one is illegal.
Where I work you come to work hungover (tested positive to drink or drugs) and you are out the door. You have to provide a clear sample before you are allowed back. Do it a third time ( or whilst on probation as either new employee or for a previous offence) and you are out of a job quick as blink.

Its in all of our contracts, we all know the rules so no excuses.

This is his last hoorah "FACT"
The AFL has been tolerant to the fact of the club lobbying/making arrangements for him.
This will be the deciding 12 months.
I hope he makes it.
Good luck mate.

Whilst I hate drugs and what they do to people and families with a passion, from what Im reading in allot of posts, some people would hope that Cousins or anybody that has taken drugs should go away and just fall into the pits of society. Guess what, that does them and society no good. Here is a guy that has put his hand up and wants to fix his life up. I for one, would love to see him achieve his goals and while he will always struggle with the demons that are drugs, support for people like cousins that really want to fix their lives should be given. Has he killed anybody, tortured or raped anyone. NO. He has done damage to himself. Give the guy a go, its going to be a tough road back for him and allot harder than just fading back into drugs and obscurity and I applaud him for his decision to be scrutinsed while he tries to recover. That takes guts and good on Richmond for giving him the chance. Its not a given that he will beat his addictions, but at least he's having a go. BTW, Im a mad Hawks fan.

I feel sorry for him and his Family. For such a long time people couldn't see past his looks and talent. He was practically a Deity in Perth. All that aside, what you have is a little boy trapped inside constantly fighting Demons/mental illness. When he's not posing for the camera's, he appears scared. I'm surprised he lasted this long and I wish him all the best.

I hope for Cousins sake , those people / family whom have stood by his side then, continue to do so now , and into the future. I also free sorry for his family and friends - I hope with time, the boy becomes the man , and he begins the journey of recovery .

I hope he works things out. It's terrible to see the way drugs have ruined his life and such a promising career.

His father sums it up pretty well in the documentary 'Such is Life'.

"Ben's problem was that he thought he was bullet-proof, he always thought that he could handle it... and he found out to his detriment that he couldn't."
