We're not talking second hand cars at all but your still missing the point.

Maybe easier to ask have you purchased an new XR8? Are you in the market to purchase a new XR8?

I know where your going with this and Flappist has brought it up before, perhaps better if I remove my sig so I can keep you guessing?

I am not missing the point, but I strongly disagree with the notion having having to "buy" an opinion.

No I have not purchased a XR8, does that mean I cant, no I could tomorrow if I wanted too. I will be in the market come the end of the year or early 2012 if I dont go OS. This is the exact car I would be after, basically what the GS is, minus the Miami and in with a US spec Coyote. Not overly worried about anything else, and I actually want cloth seats.

Also If you're interested in the actual performance of the car there is the GS ute too... which would make the SSV ute look like a SV6....

Of coarse price must come before performance right????

I bought my XR8 brand new and it has been the best car I have ever owned. To this day, it still puts a smile on my dial every time I fire it up and drive it. I will NEVER own a turbo and the GS doesn't really interest me either. My next car will be another new XR8 or possibly a flashy GT with stripes (insert "fishing" smilie). Long live the XR8 and the mighty V8's.

I actually needed this time, to build up funds to afford one, so im ok with the wait.

I'd love a GS, but a Ford XR8 (as opposed to fpv) appeals to me so much more, because id mod it too.

Well this is twice in my lifetime Ford Aus has dropped the ball on the V8's...
No i am not interested in a Holden V8, and no i am not interested in a "Manufactured Collectable" from an aftermarket dealer like FPV....
If it dont roll of the assembly line at Ford with a V8, all it will ever be (to me) is an aftermarket tart up trading on a bygone era.....period!

From what I see, the XR8 has taken a massive image-beating since the introduction of the I6T. But with unfortunately good reason.

In the AU days it was King. The Hero car for the common man. For it to reclaim that identity, it needs to be convincinly superior to the XR6T. Not just pip it. Otherwise it will suffer the same fate as its 5.4L predecessor.
We all know that it was a great car/package, but that doesnt mean anything to the mid-range performance buyer who has no model loyalty & lives by the grape vine gospel.

Im not going to say ill buy one. I cant afford it, simple as that. But according to that article, its a vital part of Fords performance image. Take a leaf out of Holdens dirty little book & keep making cars that uphold the common mans ideals/desires. Even if it defies simple business logic.

I think the price alone tells you how poorly they're selling... and how bad the resale is going to be later on but hey, if that's you're buget then so be it, i can appreciate that, no point at looking at anything better. Enjoy your SSv ute.

the way im looking at it is that in two years it will be worth about 30, thats was 08's are selling for now. by then the series 2 FG will be out and i can start looking at getting into a ford again, this will tie me over until then. will be my first holden, cant believe im going to do it

Becareful, it you paid 36 for it you wont be the only one so that will be a benchmark..
Based on that id say in 2 years you'll get about 19 trade and about 24 retail...

Most cars depreciate though Norm, I think you would take a bigger hit dollar wise on a GS.

True.... but some are worse than others... 2 years is a really bad time to trade a car.

To answer flappist's question, I had a BA2 but the rusty boot was enough for me. Would I consider another one? Probably not, because it is my wife's turn for a V8 and she is tainted with red.

Selling for or advertised for? Based on the price you can get one today, I'd say the **** will fall out of its resale. Who'd pay $6k less on a 2 year old car compared to a new one?!

it was advertised for 41, i offered him 35. he rang me back tonight and said 37 i said im holding firm on 36. i told him i have the money ready to go and i will pay 36 for it, said he will call me back tomorrow, so worst case i will pay 36,500 for it. i live in townsville, 08 ssv utes are fetching 34000 up here, so im quite confident that i will get 28-30 for it in two or three years. poeple dont shop around up here, my mate just paid 35 for a bog standard 09 ss sedan.

We're talking XR8's, but there is a good reason for a sales decline as well, with G6ET falling into this price point, this puts pressure on the XR8 to deliver a certain level of luxury with it. The G6ET is most certainly a good enough car, my favourite out of the FG series to be precise, my comment was taken a little out of context.

ha, that's what I was thinking. It's such a Ford thing to do, just dump the Xr8 for a couple of years...loose another bunch of potential customers who will go straight to an SS instead now.

I don't understand the issue with having it now, surely it can't be harder to put in an FG than Miamy??? Na Coyote would be great with less weight and better balance so should be a cracker

The ECU in Falcon cannot support the 5.0 V8s four cam phasers and without
all of them working, a NA 5.0 is at a huge disadvantage to the Holden 6.0 V8.

Think you've got one hell of a bargain. Removing the Ford hat for a minute, the SS-V Ute looks great, has an awesome engine, goes hard and definitely turns heads. I for one can see why you have made the jump.

*Puts Ford cap back on*

Just PLEASE don't put Chevy badges on the car...

Not a shot at you, but this is what I meant about V8 Ford buyers living in the second hand market.
A lot of the fans complaining that XR8 went away would be the very same people saying that
"I'm not paying $52K for one when I can buy a good used one for about $35k"

This is the problem for V8 buyers, if everyone of them buys 18 - 24 month old used versions,
the new car sales of V8 dwindles and eventually dies, then there's no more low mileage used V8s.

In the last two years, only about 1200 XR8 sedans and Utes were sold so it's already happening...
many can argue that the reason the XR8 sales fell away was becuase people were waiting for the
new V8 or the previous Barra 290 wasn't fast enough or something else, the point is sales died.
The the circular relationship between V8 buyers and Ford new car sales has been broken,
if you want a V8 sedan then the entry level is FPV GS, price is now +$60,000 on the road...

And that means nipping at the heels of the GS. Considering the GS has little else in it over an XR8, it just doesnt make sense to create a car where the only significant difference is the lack of an FPV badge.
