I do hope you know that, speaking from experience.... lol

Best of luck in all the wind though, lets hope the tropical depression makes it as far south as Brisbane, then we might have to not drink out our excrements recycled... for the next 72 years.

Go the insurance... Lucky most of us have it.... otherwise we would be up the dry creek without the appropriate shoes.

I somehow have to defend it as a hick town.....

We had a casino before our state capital, Brisbane.
We have a NBL Basketball team.
We have a NRL Rugby League team.
Our Industry is the best in the state.
We have the largest army base in the country
Our Tourism, , well ok it sucks...
We have Magnetic Island ( pretend its a really good holiday island, like Hamilton )
We have an awesome dragstrip and speedway - oh sorry I was thinking of the 80's

Compared to any other city in QLD ( with the exception of Brisbane ), we are the largest and most developed city.

Its guys like you in hotted up Camaros that spoil us Prefects ! ( ha ha )

I can't believe you put down that the Army Base as a positive, considering nearly everyone hates the Army up there!

At the end of the day it doesn't matter what Ray thinks, it is his opinion and in some ways I have to agree with him.

Ican't believe you know nearly everyone in Townsville to make sush a sweeping generalization.Admittedly there would be some people that don't like the army, but to say nearly everyone hates the army is rubbish..But you are right though everyone has an opinion..

From my nine years of living there as a Soldier we found it very hard to get to know people out side of the Army, it got to the point that when people asked me what I did I would say that I did Custom Painting, not a lie just my second job. More people where excepting of this. My wife tried to make friends outside of the Army circles but they just don't understand defence and have to many miss conceptions, also they way they treat us, they see us as a meal ticket as we r always 'Cashed up'! If that was the case I would still be in and I wouldn't have started my own business!!

And until you have been spat on for wearing the uniform you will never understand!!

i know a few ppl who are still in defence or are ex defence, as well quite a few ppl who still work there as i used to. I think why defence has a bad rep in one way or another, is due to the bahvior of a few when out clubbing, drinking, pub crawling. Thats where I have experience the worst, especially when they are grabbing, touching, etc my GF, start fights with me or are generally a pain. I can deal with someone starting on me, but when someone starts touching my GF indecently, thats when i hit the roof. I know its only a few, but it only takes a few to ruin the name for the lot. Plus the yanks dont do any good for the name either when they are in town!

From my 35 years in the army( a lot of them in Townsville.I am now a military adviser,( for wont of a better description,)living in Townsville,I and my missus have many good friends inside and outside the military in this city.I deal with the military on a daily basis and hear good and bad stories regarding the interaction with civilians up here..But to say that everyone outside the military hates the Army/Airforce is absolute rubbish...It's the same as if you say everyone hates the cops..Total exaggeration..IMO..

Hardtopxb - If you read my original statement I didn't say everyone, I said nearly everyone. As I said it is also from my experience.

EvilChief - I know how you feel about the clubbing stuff, when I used to go out with my wife we used to have the same problem, but in reverse, most of the guys where civvy, they even tried it while I was standing with my arms around her! I was also beaten up on my bucks night by another soldier from another unit, it was all unprovoked, I even had the cops on my side.

Guys you have to remember that we all have different experiences, Hardtopxb - I'm glad you have found friends outside, I wish we could have as we might still be in Townsville, we love the place, just not all the people, as with any town I guess.

It's not a big deal how much rain is falling up here, it's a big deal as to the MASSIVE rainfall differential at the moment between Nth Qld and anywhere south of Rockhampton.

Given the lack of water down south, thats why the interest is in rainfall up here.

sorry to hear about ur bucks night, appears to be not an uncommon phenomina, as a mate of mine had the same encounter on his bucks night, except the guys who started it didnt expect him to have 20 of his mates with him who all of them arent very little.

I think its a general attitude problem up here, where a lot of guys (especially guys) have absolutely no respect for the fact a girl has a partner and is in a relationship. It went even as far when my GF was telling some guys who was hitting on her that she has me, he just said: thats ok, i just smash him. WTF is with that? What happened to common courtesy that u respect the fact that some girls go into town with their girl friends and are NOT looking to pick up and just wanna go dancing & have fun. Instead now I have to worry about her every time she goes out, especially with spiking drinks etc. It just appears to me that guys expect sex as soon as they buy a girl a drink. C'mon how shallow have we gone these days?

nice and sunny here in townsville today.
went and checked out the burdekin river last weekend and it was at 9m and people were jumping off the walkway into the water, crazy nutcases.700m across and 9 metres deep is a whole lotta flood water.

a wrx from where i work got a gutfull of water in his cold air system and now has a stuffed motor lol.another dude had water over the centre console of his EB parked in his carport in Guru and its not too healthy either.there was a commode parked at the race couse with water not far from the roof as well.im sure there were a lot more dead cars after that rain.some places here are just built in the wrong area.

i done reserves in mt isa when i was an apprentice in 1995 and have worked with a few army dudes at a hydraulic shop in townsville and most of them were not bad lads.

My sister knows a few AJ's and was invited to the army ball. They told her not to put her drink down anywhere because it would most likely get spiked.

Thats what we have to get used to down here, when it rains the temp drops by about 5 degrees, the rain is actually cold! When it stops we dread the sun coming out forgetting it doesn't become humid like up there!
