Don't know where your getting your info from Trev but unless/until Qld lifts the current border restrictions by the time you want to travel you will not be entering Qld, as far as Qld is concerned the whole (including the centre) of NSW, VIC & SA are declared hotspots.

Hopefully things are under control by the time you want to travel

From 1am today.....

Additionally, I am not sure what other states are like, but if VIC has declared NSW a hotspot then they wont like you driving through.

NSW was a bit better like that, but only to an air or seaport. We travelled from regional right through SYD to the airport (didnt stop..see Ford, the Prados 120L fuel tank is very handy in pandemics!) and didnt have to quarantine when we got to TAS. TAS was ok with it too which is good.

We were hoping to go to QLD for school holidays, may just go inland further at this rate.

There are a couple of very tidy reporters though, at the end of the day they are following a script so id rather watch the ladies to be honest...Sat morning has a couple of cuties too.

I simply can not watch the other news channels, maybe SBS, the others cater to the today tonight crowd. Would be nice if there was someone in between.

one of the satday morning show in particular.

To bring it back onto topic somewhat, I follow Sharnelle Vella (Chan 10 reporter) on her social media account. She gives Victorians straight up numbers on her twitter account with no bs. The benefit of her summary over data sites, like covidlive, is that she includes the make up of the numbers, e.g. where they came from, which clusters they are linked to etc. She also sometimes does the same for other states.

Sorry Trev, I think its going to be a long while before Vic will open up the northern border again. Not to get into the politics, even the state opposition is slamming the current gov for not closing the border quick enough. So there will be no political pressure to reopen quickly.

Mate from QLD bought a new, old, car and we had booked to do a road trip in tassie in August. Cancelled. He can get down, but we now think there is a 5% chance he'll be able to get back up. Can't see TAS or SA opening to Vic any time soon either.

Libby Trickett questions accuracy of government blaming slow rollout on vaccine hesitancy during Q+A

Olympic gold medallist Libby Trickett called on politicians to show true leadership to get Australian out of its current situation.
"I just would like them to grow up, to be honest," Trickett said.

"I just really want our politicians, the people that are in power and are responsible for taking care of our communities to look after us, and actually do the job that we've asked them to do.

"It feels so much like the responsibility and the burden has been placed on the states and on the individual communities.

"We are the ones who have to stay at home and have to go into lockdown and do all of these things.

"I just want the states and the federal government to come together and actually come out with a clear, concise plan."

I think there's many in the community who would agree with you, Libby!

Not good news for Queensland...

Quote:
Queensland's new community case
Queensland has recorded one new community case of Covid 19 in the past day – a Qantas flight attendant who flew from Brisbane to various regional locations and authorities are urgently trying to trace everyone on those flights.

CHO Jeanette Young said the Brisbane woman was infectious from July 11 and crewed six flights between Brisbane and the regional locations of Longreach, Hervey Bay and Gladstone.

The Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young says the woman has the delta variant that is circulating in Sydney and they’re unsure how she contracted it.

Hey Russ, do you have a graph of the global death rate and global case rate since the start of the pandemic? Would be interested to see what impact the delta strain has had.

Not picking on you Trev, but I'm a bit confused why this line of thinking is so prevalent. Short of welding doors shut, China style, what can the authorities and politicians actually do to stop people leaving their house?

The responsibility surely falls on the individual to do the right thing. It really isn't that difficult. It just highlights the overwhelming number of selfish people in society these days.

Set good examples. Unfortunately I think the safety message has been tarnished by some rhetoric from the last 12 months. People just don't believe in the restrictions anymore. Just to be clear, this is not a state thing, I am seeing some of the same in Vic with the last 2 lock downs, A LOT more people out and about. 900 primary contacts from 1 day at Prahran market is an example, and thats only the people that actually used QR code.

Its going to take some time to undo some of the message. IMHO.

So are you suggesting welding doors shut?

If people are non compliant, then what difference does government policy make?

Of course no government thinks they will get 100% compliance but other than taking extreme measures to force compliance I'm not sure what else they are expected to do and why they should be held accountable for non compliance.

I think we are all watching SA with this delta variant. Went hard and fast on 1 community case. Honestly I think SA will come out of lock down sooner than Vic and NSW, and that should set a good example, but its probably too late now.

I'm a bit annoyed that Vic didn't act as fast as they should have. After 4 previous lock downs, pressure from businesses and political corners, they flinched on the border rules. We were also just in the midst of easing restrictions from lockdown 4, added pressure to try hold that little bit longer.
The virus is not very forgiving. IMHO only.

It means we have a real problem, not the real problem Victoria and SA have dealt with, this is a REAL problem so its time to roll down your sleeve and redirect all our vaccine to the REAL problem area.

She wants to ease restrictions in other parts of the state, whilst people from high risk LGAs are leaking out. Address that first.

There is an ocean of AZ available in NSW. Address that too.

Asking for other states and territories to give up their Pfizer supply is asking for trouble. What if it leaks into another state? The pfizer can't be shipped back and forth. Allocate 70% of new supplies to the problem areas, I think that's pretty generous, don't leave the rest of the country high and dry with nothing.

That's my quota on this thread for today
