Have been watching the NSW case numbers climb, no apparent sign of slowing yet. Do your deeper analyses show anything to the contrary?

Wow, that escalated quickly!

These growing lock downs and restrictions are starting to feel like death by a thousand cuts. Maybe we should just shut the whole central and eastern seaboard down for 2 weeks and get it over and done with.

I'd love to know how many of these numbers are attributed to the morons protesting a few weeks back.
Would also be good to tell us the demographic of a lot of these people.
But I think the Government are aware of them and that's why they're targeting certain areas to get their vaccines I guess.

Hopefully.... but i can see the rest of Australia applying the same, or similar, vaccination travel requirements and I'm betting they remain in place after any lockdown/border closures are lifted.

Both WA and Qld have not even hinted that the new vaccination travel requirements will be lifted when things do settle down.

Probably not nearly as many as you'd think.

There's just general complacency, and a lot of people deliberately trying to game the rules, not wearing masks, travelling/shopping for spurious reasons, etc.

Amongst other new lockdown restrictions Melbourne going back to curfew conditions, thats going to impress a few.

From 9:00pm to 5:00am, those in Melbourne cannot leave their home except for limited reasons.

Essential workers will be able to leave home to go to work.

While the curfew won't take legal effect until 11:59pm, Premier Daniel Andrews implored Melburnians to observe it from tonight.

He said there would be a heightened police presence to enforce the curfew.

In the past no, but lately, yes. Right or wrong, the curfew does a few things. Sends a strong signal it's getting serious. It's also to catch out the blatant rule breakers who think they can sneak into parties and have a few beers. Yeh they can do it during the day, but it's more visible e.g threat of neighbours seeing numbers of unknown cars parked outside. Etc

I have some sympathy, from Mt Druitt to Bella Vista your 5km radius includes almost nothing of “recreational” value; no big parks to walk through, lakes or rivers to follow around. A lot of people packed into medium density housing. It’s not ideal, and for so long as the government fails to clearly state goals people will seek social contact to sustain themselves.

CB, I get some sympathy is granted for those in real dias need or circumstance BUT alot of them are not as well......
Mate we can't keep going on its the Feds/Glady fault not being clear enough.
What more do you need to know, for one staying indoors as much as poss re community infections for starters.
Yes clarity is needed more about, you can this you can't that but I don't think its all that easy dotting every single i and t - who would want to be in her and rest shoes trying to find the light at the end of tunnel whilst a good % DGAF.
Were all suffering in our ways, got to deal with it.
I had typed alot more but deleted for its my own vent whats doing, others have it far worse I got to take a deep breath.

It is an intelligence of the community.
90% of the people do the right thing.
10% don't and are still not. They just don't get it.
The 90% have to wait for all of the 10% to be infected and not able to further spread it around. (Unless this process takes 6 months and they get reinfected)
This process takes a while as each plays out their part in the dumbness.

Well that engagement party in Melb has turned out to be a seeding event. Held on the 11th, its already resulted in 6 cases, although hearing it could be as high as 9 as at tonight.

Curious to know how the footage got released....$350k in fines....doesn't feel enough. The news have stopped hiding their faces now.

It sends a terrible message.

BTW, I didn’t see anyone wearing a “tallit katan” in that video.

That community has got some “cleaning up” to do now.

I see their community leaders are involved in that ‘clean up’ online.

That entire incident was really just brazen, disrespectful, and arrogant.

While a number of state figureheads are having “mine is bigger then yours” contests, the media are starting to unpack NSW’s trajectory a bit more. I note that Minister Hazzard and Dr Chant are taking a comparative back seat to the Police Minister and the Premier.

eg: https://www.9news.com.au/national/co...3-1fb7653bb2bf

From the article:
Quote:
The New South Wales Premier has essentially ruled out the state's current strategy of completely eliminating COVID-19 after 478 new cases were announced today.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian described the new cases as "disturbingly high" as she revealed the serious toll the highly-transmissible Delta strain was having on health authorities ability to quash the outbreak.

"Whilst COVID is active globally, and whilst the Delta strain is causing carnage all around the world, we can't pretend we will get to zero and stay at zero forever," Ms Berejiklian said.
The zero covid cheer squad will not be happy. There’s been measurably less airtime given to Professor McLaws, who was frequently exhibited as a spokesperson.

Part of me does wonder whether this sudden tightening of rules is a last ditch effort to try get back to zero community transmission before the grand final.

5 weeks to go with a possible bye up their sleeve. Say we come out of these next 2 weeks back down to a few cases with none in community. Gives a good 3 weeks to allow some movement and crowds. Wishful thinking.

Mark McGowan must be licking his chops.... his Grand Final dream might actually come to fruition. I must say I did thoroughly enjoy the derby on the weekend, sport is just not the same without a crowd.

Let's hope so. Short of welding houses shut, there is not a lot more other controls they can put in place. If we don't see a downward trend then we'll be forced going down the Sydney path....lock down till vaccination.

Hope the kids get to sit their exams too, that must be close?
