I wish people wouldn't tout other cars as having more tech and saying falcon should have the same standard. It's all economies of scale. The falcon has awesome tech for the budget FoA allow for it. The other brands are all global or sold in many other countries and the companies have the money to provide the tech to all models because they sell many many more units than falcon.

Not too many cars with 195 kw and a 6 speed transmission for 35 kay drive away or 270 kw for $42 drive away!!
The Falcon / Commodore are great value for money, who needs front parking sensors and adaptive cruise control anyways.

Well, back on topic, and to answer Hulks original question.
I will be looking at a new ute in about 18 months. A dual cab 4wd would be more suitable, but I hate the idea of buying a non Australian made car. I have bought 2 new Falcon utes previously and loved them. The last ute, I went to buy, I recieved very average service from 2 dealers because I asked for a new XR8 (June 2010). Neither dealer really made any effort to help me out. They didnt even offer to see what stock was available. Went to Holden, who bent over backwards to help me out, found me a car, and gave me more for my trade in, and sold me a ute that came in about $10k cheaper than an equivalent Falcon ute would have. The Commodore ute isn't bad, but it is not as good a Falcon IMO. Although, the the tone deaf idiot at Ford responsible for their premium sound, really needs to stick his head in a Commodore. That is all I have to criticise Ford on from my last 2 utes. Between them, I covered about 135,000 trouble free klms, and no problems with warrantys or dealer servicing. I even had a clutch replaced under warranty in one. As for build quality. What do people expect? Seriously? Its a car. Think of how many tiny individual components go into making it. The only thing anyone cares about when they buy a new car is the price. Something has to give. I actually found my last 2 cars to be quite good. (just hated the pathetic stereo). I will buy another Falcon, but I will go to a different dealer next time. |

We bought our GT new 4 years ago now, i don't regret it at all as i got a good price and it was the exact car we had been dreaming of.
Bought the AU ex demo nearly 10 years ago, and its showing no signs on giving up, but it will be the one thats replaced later. As only the new FPV's exctite me, and now with 2 kids, mortgage etc etc we just couldn't afford to buy a newbie. When i do update the AU, I will have to hit up the 2nd hand market me thinks

And includes the German engineered six speed ZF auto that's widely regarded as the best automatic gearbox in the world, (you know the same gearbox manufacturer that makes gearbox's for Rolls Royce, Aston Matin and BMW along with many other prestige marques).

Nope... they see that for the same price you get a car with way more packed into it, for a similar price. Even interior space is good enough.

Nikked - to be fair, there's not much on that list that falcon doesn't have. everything looks more impressive when you list out every little detail.

True, (cut and paste job) but there are still a few things on there you wont find on a falcon...and all that stuff is standard.
Its a shame really, "large and australian" isn't a selling point now. And its not a simple solution of dropping the price either. Perhaps in just being a two horse race, they were blind to the rest of the field.

I don't think it has to do with the overall quality of the product. The Falcon is seen as a large, hulking bogan mobile or for old fuddy duddies and returns terrible fuel economy. How does Ford AU change this?

so they list their cars at a high price and expect people to be drawn in and go through the uncomfortable motions of haggling 6-8k off a new ford.
not a very smart business strategy? |

The medium sized cars have now taken the place the falcon used to occupy. We bought a new ford last year but it was a focus rather than a falcon. Unless you need to tow we found the focus did everything the falcon did for less money

Ive got some news for you mate, the reason Ford are in the position they are now owes very largely to your beloved AU Falcon... That is the model that BROKE the Falcon and everyone knows it. Im sorry and I realise its a public forum but how anyone can say an FG looks like pooh inside and out then say they are totally happy with an AU falcon blows me away.. BTW Im not a Ford person at all, and judging by the response on this topic its no wonder the Falcon is gone! |

I've been tossing up a new car for the past 6 mths but having slaved away for the past few years and now being debt free and only having $150K left on our mortgage the thought of dropping $50K plus on a new car just doesn't sit right.
There is nothing on the market that really excites me other than a couple Euro sledgehammers so i'd only be buying something for the sake of it. On a side note how are the 335 FG Gt's selling because i've seen bugger all on the road. Maybe 2 or 3 if that, i thought they'd be selling like hot cakes. |

Having owned an EF Futura, a BA MkI XR6 and a BA MkII XR8, the FG G6ET that I have now is by far the best car. The handling and power delivery of this car is fantastic. It drives so nicely. From the inside, you would think that you were in a European luxury car. |

How we got to another AU/FG bashing fest has me beat! Let's leave this issue alone for the sake of sanity. Everyone hiding behind 'IMHO' rubbish is another word for 'What I am about to say is going to offend!'.
By saying "Your Mrs is ugly ..... IMHO" doesn't make it all OK On with the topic without offending those who own the FG or the AU!
