I have and there are some roads here that are better than some sections of the autobarns. Some of the sections over there with cars passing at 200 plus is down right frightening ...... But fun none the less

He pays his road tax so he used the public road thats how the system works, he now has a voluntary tax to pay because bureaucrats did not like how he used his share of public road. They also like his car so much they may keep it for a while to admire the awesomeness of a Ford Performance Vehicle. Harold Scrubby and his type make me laugh why make the rules if you dont want people to test them? You play, you may pay, have not seen or read anywhere where the owner/driver is complaining its not fair or whinging about being caught,... possibly just accepted the fact he was done and did not consider starting a thread on AFF about how to get out of his fine and ticket like most of the dogooders who get caught usually end up doing. He will be wiser in his choice of race track in the future or improve on his tax evasion techniques.

I suppose a few of us older ones in here remember doing these speeds quite often back in the hey day. And didn't have to worry about speed cameras, or point to point crap. I remember one time when I was around 19 in my hardtop (yes I've had my car for over 20 years) I wound her of the clock 140mph. Went past a cop going the other direction, he put his light on. I just keeped the hammer down and looked in my rear view mirror and seen him turn them of again and just keep driving. Had my brother in the car who was 17 and we were laughing all the way to the coast.

I am still trying to work out why 225kph is so exciting unless it is just the risk of getting caught. I was fortunate enough to own a 1974 stock as a rock Mazda RX4 which had done just 30,000miles. On a road not to be named, 6 lane freeway early am, no traffic to be seen I gave it a footfull. 138mph on the speedo and was still winding out albeit slowly and stable as a billiard table. 220.4kph from a 1974 rice rocket. I never did find out what its top speed was as I grew a brain shortly after. 5 kids will do that to you.

xr6661, 5 kids makes you think "what would they do without a father". To compound the situation, the missus had shot through. I was a "sole parent". The main reason I am broke today.

I've driven on plenty of outback roads as well......Some I crap myself driving at the speed limit, let alone going insanely over the limit. Yes, there are some stretches that are beautiful roads, where you'd feel confident enough to open the car up too... FLAPPIST....Have they improved the highway between Gympie and Bundaberg yet...That was bloody shocking a couple of years ago, when I travelled it....especially the Gympie end. Then you've got between Childers/Apple Tree Creek and Bundaberg...Not real pleasent either.

There is a 4 lane freeway that will, if they don't renege, be our first 130km/h road being built at the moment.
Section B has already been opened at the remainder is on track to be finished by 2016. Google Cooroy Curra for details. |

The road from Rocky to Mackay was that bad 15 years ago.....That changed, or still a PITA with lack of over taking lanes?

I'm absolutely flabbergasted and outraged. This is the most obscene travesty committed behind the wheel in recent memory, and the driver has done nothing but display how stupid he is..........................................
Everyone knows when you're going to go that fast on a public road you must call 000, and tell them your accelerator is stuck to the floor. It also helps to scream like a girl like that fellow (sic) in the Exploder. This way for any court action you'll have the police tapes indicating you had a problem whilst it was occurring. It also helps to hug the police officer when you stop, and throw the floor mat out of the drivers foot well. As for the sanctimonious with their fake outrage, remember when you were young and had a car and just how fast you went, then multiply that speed by the ability of the vehicles suspension, tyres and brakes to work out if what you did was more dangerous than someone doing something dumb in a Performance Vehicle. He did it on a freeway, not surface streets near houses; the guy did give some consideration to his surroundings. I was on a highway and overtook 5 semi trailers and around 12 cars all line astern at once just outside Jindabyne when I first got the G6E-T and wound up at 230km/h. I considered where I was, evaluated the danger of slowly overtaking the cars and trucks as opposed to getting past them quickly and survived. No regrets, and if pulled over I would have argued the toss as well, even in court. So there I've admitted it, and frankly the Harold Scruby wowsers in my opinion seem to be breeding and multiplying here on AFF - at least be honest with yourselves as to what you've done instead of some of the rank hypocrisy.

How can you assume that when you don't know the circumstances in which he did that? The speed isn't an issue (indeed necessary to complete the maneouvre safely) but I'd be concerned that it was a dead straight road with clear vision and he was confident that another car wasn't approaching at a similar speed. I only feel a little doubt on the last point and I wouldn't do it myself on a 2 lane road. But it's his call.

I should clarify a couple of things.
First, as the trucks were up front everything was bunched together, so there was no chance of doing it in two or three bites. Secondly, it was around 4:30pm on a straight part which goes down and up a hill, so I could see around 3km ahead in my line of sight. Thirdly, I did mention that it was a relatively new car, but I failed to mention that as I was overtaking I was watching the cars and trucks, and when I completed the manouvre I glanced at the speedo and saw it was at 230km/h. This was more to do with the lineal power delivery of the car than any desire I personally had. Believe me, I was quite surprised. Finally, upon completion of the manouvre I rapidly slowed down to 105km/h, put the cruise control back on. Signposted limit was 100km/h. Now, this wasn't done by any desire for me to speed, it was a roadblock moving at 65km/h in a 100kmh zone, which I didn't want to get stuck behind for the next 50klm. So I decided to overtake in a relatively new car. That many vehicles in front I basically floored it. You can probably imagine my surprise at the speed that it was at when I cleared the last vehicle at which point I promptly slowed the car down. The reason for my post, was that I'd imagine there's a number of members here with similar experiences, some of them in genuine surprise like mine. Whilst we can assume this guy was being a bit of a tool, we don't know the circumstances for which he got up to this speed. For all we know it could be a mechanical fault or he may have been missing his favourite TV show. Hope this clears it up a bit.

First rule of overtaking.
It is impossible to have a head on collision between two vehicles if both vehicles are on their own side of the road so the less time spent on the wrong side overtaking the less chance of a head on....... |

Wether we like it or not, when we sign up for a license we agree to abide by the rules as set down by the governing body. There are no if's but's or maybe's. That little white sign with the number on it is all that is relevant, anything else is illegal. Making comparisons to european conditions is a void argument as this is Australia, if you wish to live in a country with Autobahn type speed laws, move there. This driver is a tool and should be banned for a good while, there is no excuse for those speeds on a public road. I have travelled many k's of this great country too, but i have never felt the urge to travel at those speeds to get to my destination. |

The law if you want to die in a head-on collision while overtaking because you spent too much time on the wrong side of the road. Take your pick. |
