According to this bloke, the EL GT is it:
http://www.carsales.com.au/private/d...1997-10954038? I realise this is likely the only example that's in 'new' condition, but the price is ridiculous. ... even better when some bloke in an EcoLPI taxi smokes you at the lights. |

Im going to say the EA S Pack XR6 (the pre tickford ones) will be a collectable. Theyre a quick, well balanced car which could hand it to the V8s back in the day. Even now they are hard to find and and are going up in price too.

any GT /OR F6 . as the numbers they sell of any model combo is in low numbers , sooner or later , they will all be collectable . eg BA GT MKI is unique to itself , then BAII and so on .

Forget GT's...everyone knows they're supposedly going to all be collectable and worth squillions in the future...therefore every man and his dog keeps them, hoping they'll be worth money.
Look for something that might not have been rare, but which people will look back at fondly. Try and find a good Datsun 1600...they were granny cars, but they're worth plenty now, if you can find one. Falcon S-Packs from XD up to about XF were always a good buy...good features, nice looks, and how many good original ones do you see today? You also have to remember the feeling at the time of the release of the XF...people were amazed...look at that aerodynamic front! So unlike the squared off look of the XD and XE (even if it was just the front panels), and people were polarised as to it's looks...it was "too soft looking" for a big Aussie car, it had no V8 (even though back then people bought even less V8's than they do today, and that's saying something), it was just too different. One look at the old car markets shows that the surprisingly it's sometimes the basic cars of yesteryear that are the ones people really spend time and money tracking down...they know they'll never afford the high-dollar rarities, but they could spend a reasonable amount on something they couldn't afford when it was new and they were younger. |

According to Gover, Dowling and co, the current Falcon will be collectable as it's the last one...

Usually the `first` of something generates interest, the V8 XD/E was the last hurrah for a strangled shell of a mighty engine. The EFI XE brought the watts link rear and a 5 speed. I reckon the EFI XE would be a collector if only for the controversy it created for Ford Australia.

I'll go for a punt on FG XR8, not too many were made so in time attrition will quickly reduce numbers.
They will become relatively cheap as people look for second hand GS 315 and GT 335. |

The car I have always wanted again and one day when I find another and have the money will be a July 76 on 4.1 X-Flow 4 Speed TD XLE Cortina.... Its rare enough now that you just dont see that many and it was only the last few months that got the X-Flow motor before they went to the TE.
So many fun memories I had in mine.... Great power, crap handling, it was so much fun..... XE ESP will be the next classic then maybe the EB SS & GT only because of rarity...

I would take a punt on the XR6T 50th Anniversary model being worth some coin in 20-30 years.

all two door cars built here have become collectable, with or without bathurst, HQ and the latest Monaro, i dont believe we will have any real ford collectables after the XC cobra. everything after that will be forgettable with maybe some exceptions, i think some specials will be collectable, id love a dick johnson XE grand Prix special, bet they cost more now than new, i cant give the not to a T series, i had an AU and while a great car to drive and very reliable, they had been given a mighty good beating with the ugly stick.

I am biased, but the AU XR8 with 'full' Tickford body kit, manual only. It was the first of a series that was radically different to anything before it, including the bi-plane rear spoiler. Maybe not as good as, say a series 3 AU, but it was the first.

If you are talking about "urine yellow" or "snot yellow" then there are lots though far more citric acid than acid rush. Manuals were far more popular outside the cities than autos in BA/BA2 as the autos were extremely restricted in performance. |
