I'd be very interested in one of these bonnets. Are fibreglass panels legal on the street though? Like to know what sort of coin.

trop72 it is legal to use, Spoke with Nev who makes them and knows all the legalities around it, he'll post them up on here over the next couple of days, but basically there's a min thickness they have to be to meet the standard and these meet it.
But as said Nev will post it all on here over the next day

Regards
Ray

Why are we talking about a bonnet in a thread about a CIA Group Buy?

Heaps of people might miss it.

Hey all sorry for the late reply okay basically the rta / vic roads etc require fibreglass and any other composites to be a certain thickness to retain the strength of the original steel component its replacing and in the car of bonnets and bootlids they must be around 3.2 mm each side ie top to match 0.8mm steel and must have either factory underside or equivalent reinforcement which is hard to prove a makeshift reinforcement is as strong as a 3.2 mm fibreglass reproduction of the oem bracing so like our valiant bonnets we make and have done for over ten years without any customers getting booked this far to our knowledge.

The AU bonnets moulded from Rays top and underside & my eventual fg cobra version will be made at 3.5mm thickness and top skin also will be the same once we've made the inner gas strut mounts and urethaned them and the front catch into place the bottom skin is roughed up at all contact points which in this case is around 90% of the underbracing the top skin while still wet in the hand laid stage is rolled to remove any air bubbles and is around 4mm thick the bottom skin is bonded to it and ckamped and left to cure in the mould for a day or three depending on temp etc this bond is now over the requirements re both strength and material thickness (the mesurement can be done if needby in a brace section as its the layup thickness not the compression on the contact points) and oem bracing we will be supplying them with lighter gas struts and they will line and gap up as per a factory unit only difference is you will be able to walk across them compared to steel bonnet it won't dint.

We will be making them with epoxy resin not the standard polyester resin making them twice as strong as the same epoxy resin is used in carbon fibre and kevlar layups so heat warpage wont be an issue and the urethane for the internal steel supports has a 140 kg / per cubic centermeter tear rating. The 3.2 mm rating is for the polyester resin but because we don't scrimp or make crap we make them to comply to the poly resin thickness requirements but has nearly 3 times the strength with the epoxy resin no one would be able to say it didnt meet the safety standards.

Hope that clears up some questions re the bonnets they and the entire wagon xr body kit inc rear bumper lwb side skirts both AU & BA-BF and the FG XR8 Bulged AU bonnets. all will be up for sale before end of this month the fg cobra version will be done by mid to end of feb 1st one is for the breezemont...

Any other questions shoot us a pm.
