Maybe it was rear-ended and an SIII bootlid was used ... you never know. But then again the build date suggests it's an SIII

If you are not the original owner the previous owner might have had to replace the mirrors and not had them painted.

Correct me if im wrong , np , but i would just like to refresh my memory and maybe help others in the way of distinguishing the difference between series 1, 2 & 3 models .

Is this correct ? ( main differences from stock/factory )

Series 1 / . Single grill bar, orange indicators and red brake lenses. etc.

Series 2/ . Double grill bar , orange indicators and red brake lenses. etc.

Series 3/ . Double grill bar , clear indicator lenses with orange globes, clear brake light lenses with red globes. etc .

Without looking at the compliance plate/ build date plate etc / im just on about if someone happened to spot an un-modded AU driving by and wondered what series it was ?

Mine's an AU2 2000 Fairmont Ghia VCT sedan in Liquid Silver, with the fantastically sporty options of a h/d towbar and floor mats... I think it even had the bonnet stone guard at one point too, but all that's left is the two mounting brackets...

Who needs to raid the Tickford options list when you can have those kind of cool accessories ? (!)

well the easiest way i find to tell them apart is, au1 orange rear indicators, bonnet/front grille, for xr's front bumper ie the bumper changed between series 1 and 2....au2 clear rear indicators, bonnet/grille, xr bumper.....au3 the little series 3 tag, unless someone has just put one on, clear side markers, unless just put on...

LOL You could write a novel, start arguments and eventually wars with the AU series details, options and build dates.
