Name of Cafe/Restaraunt: Bistro Mix Nelson Bay Nsw
Price: think it was $10
Date Consumed: 15/10/08
Comments: on sour dough bread with caramel onions lettuce mayo, tomato. had the steak medium rare (don't like eating leather) anda side plate of wedges.
was very nice tasting, mayo and onions blended well together taste wise. very juicy , kinda made a mess of the table. wedges were seasoned with sea salt and cracked pepper. washed down with a iced coffee.
Star Rating (out of 5, 5 highest 1 lowest):
4.6 a little less juice and it would've been perfect.

Name of Cafe/Restaraunt: Some cafe here in Brisbane
Price: $10 or so
Date Consumed: 23/10/08
Comments: Most disappointing sandwich ever eaten, for one reason. NO BBQ SAUCE!!!!!!!! WTF? Had all the usual sandwich trimmings, bacon, egg, lettuce, 'matoe and steak obviously. Steak was well cooked. Two slices of bread. Chips were good, aioli was awesome.
Star Rating (out of 5, 5 highest 1 lowest):-1000000/5. Would have been an easy 4 if only it had BBQ sauce

Totally agree.

Slightly deviating from the topic at hand, my new favourite place in Brisbane for a steak dinner is the Morrison Hotel in South Brisbane, just off the South East Freeway. Steaks are so juicy and the mushroom sauce is to die for. I used to think Brekky Creek was good, this is eleventy billion times better. And nowhere near as busy either.

The mess factor is what sorts the men from the boys...messy is good, so long as it's tasty mess and not grease.

Name of Cafe/Restaraunt: the little shop in Bendalong on the NSW south coast (theres only one)
Price: cant remember because I ordered burgers and fich and chips at the same time but I think about $9
Date Consumed: 01/01/09
Comments:
The stats on paper are promusing
fillet stake
all the usual salads
good thick tasted bread

Its just a shame it was SO So poorly excuted, the stake was like rubber as though they cooked it on a very low heat letting it stew on the plate, and becasue of this it didnt oooze juice it jsut ooooozed that manky grey stuff that soaked through the bread and the whole thing fell to peices

the salad was nothing more than lettese and tomato and the lettace was compriced of that manky crap you normaly throw out before you get to the good bits
Rateing out of 5, 1 being the lowest 5 being the highest: 0.0001

Name of Cafe/Restaraunt: Penrith Panthers Club, Penrith NSW
Price: $11.00
Date Consumed:20th Jan 2009
Comments:

I've debated putting this one up because it goes against just about all of my meat incased in bread related beliefs and ideologies. It is with great regret and shame that I must admit that I have now, after eating this 'sandwich', had the vile substance of onion jam on my tastebuds. And let me tell you it was horrible.

Onion jam is like satan's way of extracting revenge on humanity through the culinary world. It is slimy, tastes like crap and generally puts you in a bad mood. I again repeat my stance that whoever invented it ought to be put in stocks for the public to demonstrate their disgust, and then dealt with in only the most humane way for someone so mentally ill.

The 'sandwich' was ok otherwise, good steak although a good vet could have saved one part of it, and was actually served on a hamburger bun. This let me down because anybody who has been to Penrith Panthers knows that they dont do things by halves - we actually got lost in the place and that was before we played aqua golf.

Served with chips - chips were great and best bit about the whole meal. The overall winner for me though was putting in $5 into the pokies after lunch and winnning $25 back - thus meaning that I never actually paid as such for the onion jam experience. Cop that whoever you are that invented it.

Overall rating for this one is about 2 out of 5, would have been less but I was on a high because I'd only just picked up the new ute.

Having worked 2 years in kitchens making these bad boys aswell as having a mother and father ex chefs, I know the good ones. Go try them (s.a boys only sorry) and report back!

Come down to Adelaide b2tf, then you won't be missing out. First one I would reccomend is the Stanley Bridge Tavern in Verdun. Fantastic value and a great steak sanga. And you can check out birdwood motor museum afterwards too! It's win win.

Thought I should crank this up again. Had a very tasty sandwich at the local today.

Name of Cafe/Restaraunt: Kedron Park Pub
Price: $10 lunch special
Date Consumed: Today
Comments: Nice thick toast, nicely melted cheese, just the right amount of BBQ sauce and a perfect amount of salad trimmings. Steak could have been a tad thicker, was just minute steak, but the price more than makes up for this. Came with a good serving of chips as well. $10 lunches every day of the week at this pub, so this might become a bit of a thing for me.

Star Rating (out of 5, 5 highest 1 lowest): 4

Nom nom

I work in hospitality at the moment, and the damn cafe i'm in doesn't serve steak sangas (they do do a good bacon and eggs tho, all day). Me and the ex did perfect poor mans steak sangas years ago tho, should rustle one up soon, specially since we just got a bbq here

Ok. So... This is the first cab off the ranks..

Name of Cafe/Restaraunt
: Hallam Hotel
Price:$15
Date Consumed: 29/11/2011
Comments: This came out as a squish your own sandwich. It was also the least poofy sandwich in my area I could find from available online menus (can you believe, the pub up the road is serving a Teriyaki steak sandwich).
Since I don't eat tomato or beets, I had to have them removed, which they did. For a change. A lack of sauce was upsetting, and the steak was orright, but not great. Bit chewy in places, but was a nice bit of poerterhouse all the same. TOO MUCH BACON!! never thought I'd say that, but there is officially such a thing. Also was not a fan of the surprise carrot under the lettuce.
Sourdough bread is nommable, I'm rather partial to it, it's denser and crustier than normal white crap. Too much onion...wait for it... jam. with added red onion hidden with the offending carrots.
CHIPS WERE AWESOME THO, and ended up in my sandwich for a bit. Till I ate them, and pulled the rest out beause they were being ruined by poofy jam.

Star Rating (out of 5, 5 highest 1 lowest): 3 only because of the chips.

"You mean I have to close my own sandwich????? What am I paying you for!"

Well I for one enjoy onion jam, despite what others may think. And really, it's just caramalised onion with a fancy name - see the below quote

Looks like an okay sanga, the best part about having too much bacon is you can take some of it off and eat it by itself. Yum!

No sauce is un-Australian. You should have taken it back.
