Someone parks their fg xr6 away from all others but near my fgx g6et all the time at work. I love my fgx g6et, gave up a more gadgety car for it and the only thing I miss is the stereo. I adapted quickly to turnibg a key again to the point I don't notice and since my neck still works and legally I have to check I don't miss blind spot monitoring. Since I don't check Facebook while driving I don't need active cruise or a headup display or auto brake assist. The turbo rush makes up for all those gadgets and the g6et doesn't look cheap and tacky as the xr or the sv6.

Over 12mths later and we are still figuring out which is best? Ahh if only we could still buy them.
As the owner f a fg and fgx (with the ****y brown interior) I have to say I respect them both for different reasons, the fg fpv, as it's the pinnacle of what fpv could deliver, the fgx because it was the falcon we did not have to have, they could have easily scrubbed the development and stamping and ran on the fg shape for another 2 yrs cause let's be honest, why did it matter ? The car was dead no matter what I'm just glad I have them and will always have them, as for the vf, I prefer my cars simple but it won't stop me from getting a SS when I can (lined up my mates x lease SS when it's due) after all everyone needs a run about !

The VF was a big mid-cycle update and introduced a few headline features, like EPAS, all the safety tech (mostly useless though it is) aluminium bonnet and boot lids, and the new interior. But the underlying chassis engineering that makes it the car it is all comes from the $1 billion VE. Quote:
I totally get why an enthusiast would take an FG-X over a VF - those stonking engines is reason enough! But for anyone wanting a daily driver the VF is generations ahead. For me the fact I needed a wagon ruled out Ford straight off the bat, which is a shame cause I'd love an I6T wagon. I got a VF Calais 6.0 V8 and freely admit most of the tech in it is either useless or downright annoying, but it can all be turned off and the underlying chassis engineering and the way it can eat km's so fast and safe on rough aussie roads - something I do regularly, is just awesome. +1 VF! |

Can’t comment on the FGX but I can the FG and VF. I’ve hired a lot of VF SV6s through Hertz and have driven thousands of km in the SV6 between Sydney and the South Coast. I find the SV6 very comfortable, more comfortable than my F6 and my wife agrees. The motor though does nothing for me in the SV6 period - won’t bother with the reasoning, each to their own but it does nothing to excite at all.
I grew up on Ford 6s. After a spell my wife and I hired an XR6 in Coffs. 3 months later I had the F6. The Fords for me feel more solid - just an observation, not saying that’s better. The VF feels lighter and more agile at slower speeds. For me I like both. I love the Barra, I think there’s no comparison between the I6 and V6.. As for the Barra and rough idleing, not my experience at all and is laughable - dead set the I6 is beautifully balanced and is a lot smoother through the rev range imo. What’s all that mean - give me the SV6 wagon with a turbo Barra |

I can say from personal experience, V6 commodores from any series are a waste of time.
The Alloytec is a much better performing engine for day to day than any of the 3800 versions like mine but I can’t imagine cast headers with a side of stretched timing chain being too appealing. This thread is redundant anyway, both cars are dead. Everyone should be happy that what they have is much more desirable than the ZB.

No matter how far ahead the VE is dynamics wise to some their 6cyc motors are a clear 2nd to the Ford I6 ever since they starting using the yanky 6.
Its a little better than the early day whinning rubbish from VN's but heck you'd expect so buts once a turd always a turd. bernbo your FGX G6ET screams today compared to the FG XR to me but we all see things differently and thats what needs to be respected when speaking of the dead I like FG's from first model to last. A Falcon on the open road has always been THE drive no matter the gadgets and more the other has had. Phhhhft commodores, spare me.

Couldn't agree more, I had a focus ST which tech wise smashed my fg with only a year difference with age. My Ute while it isn't as refined, very noisy inside etc but set the cruise at speed limit and the big turbo barra just eats up the miles and stand on the throttle and its a heap of fun. I'm sorry but there isn't a gm 6 that can match the n/a barra, let alone the turbo.

I don't need to wonder - its business logics nothing more nothing less, not what is better most times but what is available then and now and price price price. Less distribution/that mean dealers right. NO V8 for years, lost customers hand over fist, most don't come back and more so its fleet/salary sacrifice customers, Holden dealers had farfar more support Factory support, discounting to the proverbial hence SS high sales the volume ticket. Ford less offerings in range, extras, dragged out updates. Like I said its business logic/marketing - volume doesn't mean better driving experience, feck how many bought a commo 6 due to all the above despite its **** engine but lets not let facts get in the way..

Grammar allows people to understand what is written.
Your post made no sense.

I will put it another way then for you.Why are so negative against the brand, because you certainly rave about the Commodore. Why are you even here? Both brands have their pro’s & con’s,as I alluded to in an earlier post, perhaps you should be shouting out how “good” the thing is on a Holden forum.
