Nice work, how did you find that, talking about obscure.

From the write up it seemed like a bit of a beast.

Should be easy - I think one of the all time ugly cars of all time; no wonder it sent the company to the wall (albeit to re-emerge later).

I would like to say I recognised it but aside from the taillights, I didn't - a Google image search under Kevlar bodied sports car found it.

Thought it was another car at first sight. Might use that one here sometime.

Heres a new one.

Sorry I see from Wikipedia it's properly a shooting brake rather than an estate car.

Initially thought it is a Morris Marina, but Renault 6 ?? Totally agree with "this is a hard game" but lots of fun. I used to think I knew a wide variety of cars - aussieblue & qwik6 are masters.

Not a Pug 504.
(Blackjack was very warm on the trail there.)

These cars were manufactured from 1965-1980 and they
built a LOT of them..... about 1.8 million.

Interesting and collectible as something a little different though. And not all bad
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oldsmobile_Toronado:
Quote:
Despite an average test-weight approaching 5,000 lb (2,300 kg), published performance test data shows the 1966 Toronado was capable of accelerating from 0–60 mph (0–97 km/h) in 7.5 seconds, and through the standing 1/4 mile (~400 m) in 16.4 seconds at 93 mph (150 km/h).[1] It was also capable of a maximum speed of 135 mph (217 km/h).[2] Testers found the Toro's handling, despite its noticeable front weight bias and consequent understeer, was not substantially different from other full-size American cars when driven under normal conditions. In fact, many contemporary testers felt that the Toronado was more poised and responsive than other cars, and when pushed to the limits, exhibited superior handling characteristics, although it was essentially incapable of terminal oversteer.

I also think they are one of those cars that look particularly evil when painted black - esp at night without the headlights popped.

Ok here's one:

............with a very appropriate sounding name given what it's made of and what would happen to it in an accident. Made for around 20 years in the 50's and 60's and, in addition to being made in its country of origin, it was also licensed to be made under other names in in Chile, the UK, Argentina, the Netherlands, Sweden, Attica , Greece, and India. It was also manufactured in South Africa under its original home country name. A pickup version was also available in Argentina.
