Does anyone know anything about this? Its all over the European sites, but I can't find a thing about it here. Does anyone know a TSB or recall number?

Probably the 20B44 inspection which appears to be a TSB or some other document.

See this Transit forum page 8 which contains a copy of the document contents, and the next page for very recent posts.

interesting. my van falls outside the range (1/5/16 - 1/7/19) but even knowing the FSA number I still can't find any details in Australia. Maybe we never got the 2.0 until after this date?

Ah, the good old wet belt failures.Citroen also did a recall on theirs not long back.

I have a Feb 2017 built Transit Custom 2.0L six speed auto and will see if it has ever been checked for this. Transit Custom switched to the 2.0L 96kW when the auto version became available and then after an update the 125kW version became the standard engine with the Sport getting a more powerful tune.

2.0 Ecoblue engine, same as Ranger but the issue looks to be degraded or diluted oil causing premature failure
Read, people skipping services and replacing oil occasionally……and then wonder why engine goes bang.

Curious as to oil change intervals as I see some van manufacturers suggesting 30,000km oil change intervals and to me thats well and truly stretching the friendship.

no I don't think so. it's because much more fuel goes into the oil than anyone expected, so the oil life is significantly degraded, and the belt running in **** oil gets worn.

fuel in oil is a significant issue in Ranger too, so eyes up!

Wow, how does the diesel end up in the oil?
Does it get past the rings or is there another way in?

I've seen cars with DPFs end up with the oil level getting higher up the dip stick and its diesel in the oil, related to a problem with the DPF.

Ecoblue engine has a 30,000km service interval which looks great on the sales brochure. Everywhere else it’s a terrible idea.

Apart from our 2017 Custom I have a 2021 Vito 119CDI and its 25,000km/1 year.

Mazda diesels had big problems with fuel getting into the oil. Clogs the DPF and results in engine failure. People are buying diesel SUVs and utes then using them for the school run. They need to have regular long runs or they have all sorts of problems. It is not a good idea to buy a secondhand modern diesel as you don't know how it has been used and there could be very expensive problems ahead.

I agree,

Curious to see what the Ranger Hybrid is going to do fuel usage wise compared to the diesel variants as well as at payload and towing capacity.

Seems these days that these little light diesels can be a never ending worry starting with
that higher initial cost and the unknown service issue that seem to be a constant problem.

Makes me wonder if this will usher in a return to petrol hybrids as a way of getting good city
fuel economy for all those smaller suvs and 4x4 Utes that run around mostly on urban streets
and highways.

There's a lot of unleaded Hiluxes getting about, povvo-spec workmate jobs.

But they're the only option on the market I believe,

Ranger hybrid will probably be first to market, will be interesting to see.

the amount of $$ invested in the diesel aftertreatment is an embarrassment

as we move to Eu7, hybrid gas is just about the only powerpack that meets the emissions standard, without massively compromising on performance so expect to see a lot more of those come along in the next few years.

Eu7 is still hard. in fact when Eu tried to pull ahead the introduction by 12 months all the manufacturers pushed back as right now, nobody knows how to meet the standard. Even with gas hybrid, it looks like there will need to be massive aftertreatment, like heated catalysts and more NOx sensors....

The trickle-down is going to be interesting in 15 years, both in used vehicle prospects and how people adapt to likely stricture upon travel (cost, and maybe legislation driven).

In terms of trickle down, as soon as repair cost of complex components > scrap value of car, it's sayonara. With more complex vehicles and expensive battery replacements, it's coming sooner for many late model cars. Edit: ironically, shorter car-life will be worse for the environment as of the energy and material and scrapping cost of having to make them again, sooner)

This will create stricture upon travel and those who keep simple, reliable transport in some form of loophole in future rules will remain unaffected.
