Default GMH summernats bingle

This is what happens when the driver stabs the Go pedal and the back steps out whilst in the meantime the throttle linkage jams on,pushing a concrete barrier into the crowd

If you don't know how to properly control your car, why would you even bother trying that stuff? Its asking for trouble.

Got me stuffed why you'd torture your pride and joy like that and risk the possibility of damage... as seems to happen allot!

A lot of early stock Holden throttle linkages are "rod" type aren't they? i.e. no cables. This type of linkage is easy to jam .. my old '68 Pontiac had a similar setup and at WOT could jam open even with the return spring(s!) still attached. Scary ....

I always used to dismiss the “second throttle return spring” requirement that CAMS required.

Then the only throttle return spring failed in a friend’s car on the street and he was going fast enough that the air pressure stopped the butterflies from closing with his foot off the accelerator. Fortunately he had a manual (clutch in/neutral) and enough space to slow down. If it had’ve happed on the track he would’ve wound up in the Armco. Since then he and I have had a lot more respect for throttle return springs.

Damn OzJavelin!! That rod jamming would be scary as hell.

I'd say if throttle stayed open ?? Even partially ...There would be way more damage than that!!! In any case at what distance did he leave to stop??

this car was rebuilt overnight and out performing a burnout the next day. Top effort by them i must say. As to all the people saying the throttle didn't stick, it did and that was the result.

I also seen a little car which if i remember rightly was a green chrysler's throttle stick on the dyno and the bloke had to open the door and unstick it with his hand

If it's an injected/alchohol set up why would you keep the mechanical linkages???

Seems a bit silly to me. Would make more sense to use a cable and a couple of burly return springs.

both cars had front runners as well which did not help i was fortunate enough to witness both crashes the black one moved the concrete road divider/block to the other side of the road silly Holden's
he was doing burn-out throttle stuck and just pushed the car (front wheels skidding).
the van looked like he was going for a big power slide/turn entry into the big square part of the burn-out pad straight into arm-co
when will people learn that skinny front runners are for straight line racing only. you want a grippy front end when doing a bun-out
40% of the cars doing skids broke down

this car belongs to a bloke i know.
Apparently there was a burr on the blower hat intake which caught the butterfly, which held the throttle open.. not much you can do really.
At least they fixed it that night.

That was the initial diagnosis, but they were playing with it later on and found it was catching on the burr, which is what happened.

It was a huge effort on Saturday night where a whole bunch of burnout guys (Myers, Taverna, etc) got stuck in and helped fix the car.
