Pretty sure, once you are in the hospital and stable, then NOK are notified, hospitals have their own ways of finding your information. If you are close to death, maybe then they will check your phone, and as said, "mum" or "dad" in my phone is mum and my dad...no problem there

This was sent as an email about 5 years ago. Probalby a tyhread on FF.com about it! LOL

I think 'redail' would be used also, easier than finding the directory, searching for ICE then calling.

On a slight tangent. How many people know that the correct emergency number to call from your mobile is 112 and NOT 000?

There was a specific reason as to why, but it has slipped my mind.

isnt 112 the international emergency number? as in where ever you are in the world if you call that number off your mobile you will be redirected to that countries emergency centre

Actually, that may be right. I remember being OS and reading up on some tourist info, and thinking to myself that same thing when I saw what that countries mobile emergency number was. (ie, same as ours)

http://www.acma.gov.au/WEB/STANDARD/pc=PC_100581

"112 is the GSM international standard emergency number which can only be dialled on digital mobile phones. 112 can be dialled anywhere in the world with GSM coverage and is automatically translated to that country's emergency number."

I believe 112 can also be dialed on a phone with no sim or coverage? (it will connect to other carriers)
