Default Usain Bolt!

How easy does this guy make a 9.68 look. what time could he post if he actually raced all the way to the line instead of being the typical showpony sprinter for the last 20m.

Can he replicate the great carl lewis and do the 100 - 200 double. maybe even get to johnsons WR of 19.32!

jamaicans sure know how to build a sprinter thats for sure.

once again Asafa Powell chokes on the big stage too.

He made a 9.6 look completely plausable.

Absolutely incredible athletic performance, and it was worth staying up for. His little celebration jig was gold to...

I saw him in the semis, incredible athlete - switched off with 20 to go and still put in a 9.8. At least he's not as obnoxious as the usual American 100m sprinter who starts doing laps after they win a 100m sprint.

He made 9.69 look easy it was a race of 7 others againt each other and a super human againts his own world record. I have been following him since I first seen him on fox in March 08. He could have missed that start by a full stride last night and beat that field (as long as he retained his composure). They guy than ran second was 9.89 and Asafa ran 9.95 in 5 the so at least the first 5 where under 10 amazing. Michael Johnsons WR in the 200m which is amazing may go as long as he gets a good start because thats the only thing with Bolt is he can be slow away its possible but MJ's 19.32 has stood up for a while. Id like to see him race in the 100m and go all the way to the line with no clowing around is below 9.65 possible? (just maybe)
I cant wait for the Jamicans 4 x 100m relay to spank the USA's butt out of the stadium and break there WR.

Not a chance maybe a hybrid or truck to 30kph
But a quick factory car can do 0-100 in 4seconds (some faster) and 400meters in under 10seconds
Also the record for the fastest 400m in a car is 3 seconds so it probly took the car 1sec to do 100m

I too watched the final live, and he's a bolt alright. Seems like a real character but is not obnoxoius like past sprinters from the US.

Watched him qualify too and he was just as impressive.. basically jogged and got a 9.9

The guy could do a 9.5, if he actual gets around to running a 100m!

Well are we putting the sprinter up against a normal car or a top fueler for the 100m sprint?
It would still be very few and far between factory cars that can do 400m in under 10 secs. Which car was it that done the quarter mile (400m) in 3 seconds?

lol? you been watching too much top gear? there arent many cars that can do 0-100 in under 4 seconds and a sub 10 second quarter mile. Im sure the guy meant comparing it to a normal sedan or hatchback, not a bloody million dollar ferrari or lambo.

Still wouldn't have a chance against a normal or fairly slow car over 100. But comparing to cars is pretty stupid, he is ridiculously fast for a human.

The one thing that I hate about him though is how he switches off, who cares if you've won comfortably? You should still put in 110% the whole way. It comes off very arrogant and doesn't show his full potential.

The stride on this bloke is amazing, his one step is equal to 1.5 or so of everyone else

His start was a bit off the others but once he hit his stride he took off. He would of done 9.65 if he didnt turn side on and drop his arms before the finish.

I remember Ben Johnson did a 9.79 and won by a mile and he got done for the roids in Seoul. It shows just how far they have come since then with training routines

He really bolted didn't he?

I gave a bit of thought to the car comparo and he wouldn't be too far behind a slow car over 100m.

Assuming an average 1/8 mile (200m) time being 2/3 of a car's given quarter mile time, a 15 second car will cover 200m in 10 seconds. Further assuming the first 100m will be 2/3 of the 1/8 time this gives around 6.7 seconds for the first 100. This ties in pretty well with some of my timeslips for 330ft, 660ft, and quarter mile splits. Now let's consider a slow car...21 sec quarter mile for ease of numbers. 2/3 of that is 14 seconds to 200m, and 2/3 of that is around 9.3 seconds for a standing 100. So it appears a 21 second car would only just barely peg him back before the line, any shorter (like a 50m race) and the man would win.

your right. but a 21 sec car is not the average car . You spend a far bit of time finding a car that slow these days.

And your right about that.

The Rocket Funny Car record was set by the late "Slammin' " Sammy Miller at 3.583 seconds @ 386.26 mph in 2002. The all time quickest 1/4 mile ever recorded was by stunt woman Kitty O'Neill in 1977 at an incredible 3.235 seconds @ 412.50 mph.
I got the video of sammy miller on this link

i know it says 4 second run but it actually is 3.5 sec

I bet you he couldnt. Id love to see it (4sure I would) realistically maybe maybe a 9.65 (or the lowest id go is say a 9.63 or 9.64).

A 9.5 would be like a BA XR6 that does a quater in say 14.2 doing one in 8.5 the next time out it aint going to happen. He is a super freak though and great to watch. Id love him to break the 200m WR of 19.32 that has stood up to the test for a while now.

Very fast man indeed. He is probably used to training with a big Rasta hat on his head and a big fat scooby hanging out the mouth, so take them away and that's some major weight loss ..lol. Check out the gold runners this bloke wears too, amazing.

Somebody needs to get a picture of him crossing the finishing line with the gratuitous line, "V-TEC just kicked in, Yo!"
