It would be nice to know the tread size where tie rod connects to rack.

Try contacting a place that overhauls power steering parts they should be able to give you dimensions. You might however have to give them the dimensions you are looking for to narrow it down.

thank you
I have tried that . unfortunately most only just do the seals etc, and do not really know a great deal about the units
I have contacted companies that do the mod but as yet no one has been interested in the job.
There seems to be a lack of motivation here in Australia these day , perhaps its my age talking,
thank you for your suggestion

Thats a shame Bob. Idea number two and i will probably involve a lot of rumaging around is find a wrecking yard that lets you wander around ,if you are in SA upullits are good for that, and have look what might best serve what you have in mind. Last suggestion have a look online for catalouges on rack ends / tie rod ends and ball joints some of them have dimensions and threads in them.
Good luck.

Ring up the guys that do the conversion to right hand drive on the f150. They have people build a steering rack for them to suit the conversion. They would be your best bet.

Wouldn't you need to know the track of your car and find a comparable sized car then get the dimensIons of the rack it uses?
You would need engineering approval I would of thought so maybe an engineer can help in sourcing the correct one.

If only it was that simple.
Track width is important , when it's comes to things like the stile of suspension and scrud radios and a number of other influences
The position of the rack in relation to the pivot points top,and bottom arms in my case as I'm using long and short arm stile suspension.
What I need is a rack that is around 30'' ( 762MM ) between the tie rod inner pivot point centre lines
So I can shorten it to,the lenth I need .
If the rack is to long and a power rack they can not be shortened with out loosing rack travel
Sorting out the geometry is not a problem, finding a production rack that is close is and I'm not in the industry these days to have access to a variety of rack n pinions to measure
I should make it clear this is a track car I'm building, No narrow minded engineers involved.
Bob

Need your wheelbase and track sizes.

I'm putting a corvette body on a custom chassis. All of the Gm production rack and pinion are either to long or to short, not the norm for the forum.
I'm not that one eyes that I won't use a quality part form different manufactures to get the right result,
I'm hoping those here that are like minded when it comes to modified vehicle may know the info I'm looking for , but there just may not be a rack in a ford that will,do the job I need.

Bob , I have a Peugeot 203 steering rack in my shed ( not available for you - I need it ) but have measured . It can be slightly lengthened/shortened from its length eye to eye of 720 mm. Only problem possible for you is the unusual connection to tie rod , but this can be modified with a Camry rack end. The same type of rack is on 403/404 Peugeot so there should be a wrecker of Peugeot parts near you who would have a 403/404 rack. it is not a power rack , has a simple flex disc connection to steering column shaft.
