Default Au - MAP sensor removal

Hey ppl. I ran a search, but its near impossible to find matches for MAP lol.

What I need to know, is how the hell do you remove it? If its what I think it is (small box, prob half the size of a smoke packet, directly under the t-body / butterfly) Its near impossible to get to. I cant' get a ratchet onto it because of the fuel rail, and you'd need to be a Japanese monkey to reach it from underneath?

Any ideas?

I want to pull it off and clean it out, as I'm now sure after 15months of looking, that this is the cause of the problems with the car.

Eg,

Hard to start
Too rich all the time, especially startup.
Hesitation and flat spots
Extremely poor fuel economy - worse than my v8

Cheers,

Thats what I thought lol, but didn't really want to do it. Was a bit lazy that day.

Is that the only way about it, or has someone else got a bright-idea :

Cheers,
I don't know if cleaning it out will give you much joy. I had exactly the same symptoms after an LPG backfire and eventually had the computer scanned for DTC's which indicated the TMAP was dead. I got the workshop to replace it with a new one, which involved, surprisingly, removing the top half of the BBM.

If it's been running rich for 15 months, that's probably stuffed your O2 sensor and cat as well.

As I've said in numerous other threads, get the PCM scanned for DTC's if the plugs, leads and filters are all good.

I read in another thread, that they cleaned theirs out, and noticed a difference immediately. If it does improve, Then I will know this one's shagged and will just replace it and my 02 sensor, Problem solved.

Fair enough. Just means having to get it out twice.

Remove the TB, and then you'll have easier access to the MAP. I did mine without removing the upper half of the BBM, and I have big hands.

Oh, and the new MAP sensor is a wallet lightener too!

Cheers, thats even easier. Like I said "lazy mood" . As for the wallet lightener, so I've heard. I might try the wreckers instead.

Thanks all

Get a new one... there is no guarantee one from a wrecker will work - you'll be in the same position you're in now (unsure what the problem is, maybe it's the MAP sensor?)

As a matter of interest, is the AU TMAP sensor fitted to the top half or the bottom half of the BBM?

The answer to this question and where it leads to next, may well be helpful to anyone considering boosting their AU...
