Default Need for speed

With all the babble going on about just how dangerous it is to go fast on a road, I am wondering just how fast everyone has actually gone LEGALLY (and survived).

As we are all nice non law breaking people here please only talk about going fast when it was not naughty.

Also please just include times when you travelled at the speed for more than say 10 minutes not just a 20 second blast before panic set in.

My highest was 254km/h in NT but that is a little bit fast for a FPV and eats petrol in a big way.
150-200km/h was a better idea.

N.B. Not naughty includes open limits in Austraila or overseas, private roads, public roads that were closed for competition (Targa etc.) but not permanent race tracks.

In that case, 110km/h on various highways to places in South Australia is the fastest I've driven.

Although in my AU I do know the speed limiter was active at 180km/h due to the dyno printout having a major power drop when it hit that speed.

115km/h (I'm holding a 10%+- leniency here)...

Unfortunately, I hit a roo and decided speeding was bad mmmkay...

On populated roads - just the speed limit...I promise

I just saw your NB...and in that case, 140....and was also reminded of my expedition in the FG...so I have to say now 119 :(

I've hit 200kph on a few occassions. Haven't looked, going down the back straight at QR but did glance once while going through the Kink at Lakeside in my FG F6 and was doing 215kph. (You get there quicker now that the entry coming onto the pit straight is widened).

Did a 250km/hr + run in the NT. The GT was rock solid on this run - extremely stable.
Evidence has shown that more accidents occur at less than 60kms/hr as people "switch off" and pay little attention to the road.
At 110kms/hr you pay attention
At 250kms/hr adrenaline makes you pay attention to EVERYTHING on the road.

A year or so ago was the last time I was going fast hit 200kmh in a VW Golf GTI in Malaysia early morning on the way to the airport as we were running late, I was a passenger.

Speaking of VWs and fast, once had a little old nonna in Italy in a VW Transporter van sit on 160 (taking us to a hotel) in a 130 zone, she was whinging it uses too much fuel to go any faster...

Before the limits were set in NT, I had a rental BA for work and had it on its speed limited 200km/h for a fair whack of the trip (Alice to Darwin and back, with stops in between).

Hitch-hiking from Townsville to Alice around June 1986.
Got a ride from Tennant Creek to Alice in a Telec** Commodore with a couple of tech guys - sat on 160 all the way without much problem, but the smorgasbord of ingestible substances they had was a bit of a worry.
The full story is typical of the time and place, and shows how much luck plays a part in survival.
Woke up the next day with my toes in my nose and took the train to Adelaide.

I've hit 210 but for only a couple of minutes till I realised my fuel gauge was sinking faster than the titanic. But I did take great pleasure in passing a police car on it's way out to the jail outside of Alice springs going 170kph in a TE Cortina back in the 90s, the driver just waved as I flew by, ahh the memories.

100klm/h as per P plate laws in SA. If I ever get a car worthy of tracking and I get it to a track, I'll go faster.
Once I did 62 in a 60 and didn't die, can someone please explain this???

Lucky I got to edit my earlier post , I will always do the most that I can etc 119 in a 110 zone etc ...but in saying that I am a nanny on town , i just poke around no saving in speeding when you only got to drive 10 k to get somewhere and its all set by how many lights you get anyway . The rest is very incriminating ...ie blackbird ,

Back a few years on the stuart highway in NT of course ;)
My R1 (no longer own and no longer interested in the speed) saw 295km/h on the digi-speedo without a worry. Stable as a shed full of horses.

Cracked 185km/h from Alice Springs to the boarder in the AU wagon. Just didn't have anything else in it and seemed a while to get from 180 to the 185.

In the Landau though can get to 210km/h in the space of 11 seconds! Going fast is no where near as fun as getting fast quickly!

Cruising at well over 200km/h for hours on end in Germany while living in Europe. Used to cruise at 160-180km/h on the freeway to work in The Netherlands. Not the speed limit but Dutch cops are fairly liberal. Here I just can't be bothered as most of the other road users here are not awake when they drive, the roads aren't made for speed and Mr Plod will treat you like a mass murderer if the exceed the limit by more than 10km/h.

Buy a lottery ticket NOW! I have never heard of such luck.

I have only done 170km/h in a 2000 Magna 3.5 V6. I didn't want to go faster in it.
When I am in an appropriate car and at an appropriate place I want to break the 200 mark. 250 will be fine for me.

Exactly 260kph on a German autobahn in a 997 series Porsche Carerra S. That was holding it absolutely flat on a long straight. Only did it once. Rest of the trip was around 140-160kph with the odd blast to 200 or so when on the unrestricted stuff.

I used to live in an area where it was possible to do long stretches at high speed in the the nt!
I owned an eb series 2 then, which was at that time a new car. It used to go well enough to place the needle past 200kph and hit the stop at the other end of the speedo if that makes sense. In other words I would wind it off the dial. As it was possible to do it, it was a weekly occurance along this particular 35 klms stretch of road. The road wasn't straight either. It had a series of fast sweepers along its length. I used to slow down to 160 for the slowest bend. It was a fun 8 minutes.

I have also seen over 250 on a bike and over 200 with pillion on the back, again on areas where it was legal and safe to do so.

in the country that needs an autobahn the most, we're limited to 110km/h. i suppose it'd be too expensive for the long haul between brisbane and sydney.
