Thumbs up FPV Confirm nothing but journalists put 2+2 together and make 5!

Ford's new Coyote V8 set to bite
MATT CAMPBELL

Ford's Coyote V8

Ford's all-new 5.0-litre V8 'Coyote' engine will produce 307kW of power and 528Nm of torque in its base form, and is seen as the first step in a performance fight-back against local rivals Holden and HSV.

Details of the new engine have emerged prior to the 2010 Detroit Motor Show, with Ford insiders saying the smaller capacity V8 will produce more power in its base form, boasting 307kW compared to the current 290kW from the 5.4-litre V8 - three versions of which are currently offered across the Ford XR8 and Ford Performance Vehicles ranges.

A range of V8 engines and variants – including a supercharged version - are expected, with insiders saying the all-alloy 5.0-litre Mustang-sourced engine will offer far superior fuel economy, refinement and mid-range response than the current cast-iron 5.4-litre mill.

Whether or not there will be two versions of the new 5.0-litre V8 – to power both the XR8 and the FPV models – is still unknown, and there is speculation that Ford may consider discontinuing the XR8 altogether, leaving FPV to fly the V8 flag against Holden and HSV.

Holden and HSV's twin-pronged V8 dominance over Ford during the past five years has meant that Ford's 'hero' car has moved from the thirsty, less than exhilarating 5.4-litre eight-cylinder Falcon to the turbo-charged six-cylinder XR6.

Holden has capitalised on better access to engines through its parent company General Motors, and despite the push for more environmentally-focused motoring, sales of V8's remain strong.

A shift to a more aggressive V8 range from FPV was signalled earlier in 2009, when the head of Ford Performance Vehicles, Rod Barrett, stated that a reincarnation of the iconic GTHO model in FPV guise was imminent.

The introduction of a new range of V8s could pave the way for the flagship performance model to return, however the timing for the new GTHO is still unconfirmed.

A mid-2010 facelift across the FPV range should see the introduction of several versions of the new V8 in Australia.

That's not a confirmation of anything... That statement was made mid last year, it was an open ended carrot that in reality meant nothing....
"could" "maybe" "when it right".....

I like how they describe the BOSS as less than exhilerating....could this be the same kind of writing somewhere that said the BOSS was faster 0-400 but because it didnt 'feel' as fast as the GMH offering??? Im glad i stopped spending my money on motor and wheels.

In 3 more years the HO will be back. So far we have FPV GT, then GT "E" ,next will be GT "F", then GT "G", then GT "HO". This of course is subject to any future FPV anniversary models, any future "Cobra GT? " models or any more names FPV can resurrect from the past.. :

I wouldn't want to see "HO" on anything new they produce, unless it was truely deserving, which it won't be.

Couldn't agree more mate, The HO has a certain heritage and in my opinion nothing will ever stand up to the critique it would face. Better to leave it as a great part of history.

It can never live up to the original legend for impact !

HO - High Output
HO - Homologation Option
HO - Handling Option.

Which One ?

That is why I do not want it brought back.
Let the car remain a legend without cheapening it.
The return of the Monaro in 2002 was not exactly a massive success.
The HO for the day was a standout for Australian cars, but now we have enough options available to satisfy.

You bring the HO back and don't meet the massive expectations, then it will be considered a failure. Given the height of expectation, Ford/FPV will NEVER be able to match it, and therefore, I'd prefer to see the label never come back.

I wouldn't mind if they brought back the GTHO as a limited run but it'd have to be something like the new Dodge Challenger, old school muscle car styling. But that won't ever happen, that needs money.

I think the 5.0 arriving in the falcon has good odds, I'm hoping/thinking that for pure marketing reasons having a Boss 302 in the GS (if it continues) then a (Boss) 351 GT would be a stroke of genius.

whats the point of that though, the HO is a version of the falcon, a complete re skin just for one model line (150-300 units) doesn't make any sense.

The mythical HO will have to go down the path of Something like GT3 RS Porsche, racing seats, harness, roll cage, stripped interior etc (to satisfy people who think it should be a race car, Ala the phase1-4), or a W427 like car, luxo interior balls out engine etc.

Then again, the new GT500 mustang would be a good aiming point...

Any hope of Ford building a new HO that will be the worlds fastest 4 door is almost an impossible mission.

Everytime someone mentions the letters "HO" a thread descends into a discussion on what the gtho should be and what ford should do yadda yadda yadda

Can i suggest to the mods that we have a GTHO section so that all that discussion goes in there? This thread was supposed to be about the upcoming release of fords new v8 engine. I dont mean to offend anyone (ill be as excited as anyone on here if it came to fruition) but Im really tired of sifting through GTHO discussion.

At no stage has Barrett said that a GTHO is imminent. That article is very 'creative'. He may have implied that in some stage in the future there 'might' be a GTHO.
