The 13B rotary would be a killer engine - small and light and extremely responsive - just keep your wallet open 'cos they really like a drink.

I think it's pretty tall though isn't it? It has been done before but it's a very rare combo. Most people do Zetecs or SR20's currently.

You can try the 4AGE
Here's one prepared earlier MKII 2-door :P This one is setup for Drift/race though

all of those options would be fun, but not cheap.

12A/13B/FJ20/SR20 are all good options but u can get cheap low km SR20 these days and conversion will be cheaper than other options.

Check out this escort

http://www.pacperformance.com.au/Cars/cars/573.aspx

If u go rotary then go to www.ausrotary.com to track down ur parts as u can get some good stuff here cheap

A mate of mine did it in a MK1 back in the '90s... he wrote it off and then put the motor into a Datto 1600. The moral is that it went like a scalded cat!

I have owned a few rotors in my time and have to say that the 13BT is awesome.

Are you going to throw some fresh seals in there?

You thinking S4, S5 or REW (series 6-8)? If you're going for the single turbo motor and not changing turbo etc, go the Series 5. From memory the turbo on the series 5 had a different wastegate and a few other things... slightly better.

You looking to do computer too?

Full 12A Rotary conversion including cross members, radiator etc etc

http://classicford.mine.nu/forum/top...TOPIC_ID=19961

Quote:
12a mild port motor
Gearbox, crossmember,radiator
evrything you need to do your set up
you can still see and hear running
any interest let me know and ill pass it on
$4000.....The engine has done about 6000k since being rebuilt as he does not drive the car that often
the whole conversion that is being sold is a remove out of this car and drop into yours so beside having to do a slight rewire on your car and maybe some small changes you get the whole lot radiator motor box crossmembers everything.

Something interesting to note... is it legal to drop a 13BT in an Escort these days? A 12AT would still rip.

13BT very unlikly but 12AT should be very easy

Dont look past the 12AT as the fastest untubbed rotary in OZ is MR12A and he has run 7.96 and the fastest in the world is 7.54 @ 177mph

13B no go in Qld so I've been told. 12A is okay.

Something NA would be the go. All the cost of keeping a turbo engine tuned puts me off. It's much cheaper buying an NA aswell. And the boi racers usually waste their time with the turbo engines, so finding an NA in sound mechanical condition is far more likely.

Man turbo the pinto!!!
Rotaries are witchcraft that's just general knowledge plus I prefer reliability.

Use a standard cam or one around 265- 270 you don't wanna overcam a turbo pinto the rs500 turbo cosworth was running 280 cam's from memory.
Run 7-8:1 forged pistons. Get the block o-ringed. Get better valve seats and up a mm. Resurface the crank. Forged rods. Clean the port and polish. Sierra intake and buy a computer from the 2 litre holden camira. Grapht the top of the camira dizzy to an escort dizzy. And it's all ac delco, they run the same software as the commodores do so it's completely reprogrammable. Run a log manifold with a high mount turbo, and an air to air or water to air top mount intercooler.

I haven't priced up the pistons, cam, rods yet. But i've been qouated $600 for labour and machining to rebuild the bottom end if i supply parts.

I already have the sierra intake and turbo manifold. But without these things you could easily build the motor for around five thousand if you know the right people. Don't underestimate a turbo pinto, with an o ringed block and everything forged you can push 20-25 psi. And you'll be getting atleast 300+ atwhp. In a 850 kg car that spells fun to me. it's all gravyy

My mate put a 13B turbo into his Mk1 and actually had it engineered. He did everything properly and the engineer said it was one of the best conversions he has seen.
Although I did cry when he said he was putting a rotor into the escort lol!!

It goes in pretty easy, you will have to modify the sump. Also it would be best to get one where the front cover mounts to the cross member - you will need to fabricate this cross member too.

You'll have to move your master cylinder too I think and usually they run a hydraulic clutch so you'll need to fit a clutch master cylinder to suit.

rb25 turbo will fit with 5 speed . you need to remove some bonnet rips or bulge it but it fits fine

Get a 18BPT out of a TX3 Laser.
Cheap easy to do and it still has a Ford badge. Lots of parts available from the states (same as an MX5 motor).
Light etc etc.
If you have coin get a Duratec out of a late model Focus. Very fast, light etc and everything to do the conversion is off the shelf.
A zetec can be turbo'd charged and all parts are cheap ex US / UK.
If your car is a 2 door stick with a Ford engine as the escort diehards will spit on you if it has anything in it without a Ford badge & the car will retain its value much better.
See ClassicFord Forum for the best info.
