Default Exhaust Noise

Over the last 6 months or so I have had my exhaust changed 3 times trying to find out why, when the car is warn and I apply moderate acceleration I get a drowning sound coming from the exhaust.

It is hard to explain the noise but I am hoping someone has been in a similar situation as me. The original exhaust was just a straight 2.5" cat back with 2 mufflers. I then removed one of the mufflers to make the exhaust louder. This is when all the problems started, while I got the exhaust louder I noticed that this drowning was very evident so I got them to put the muffler back in. However the drowning was still there but not as evident, they then suggested to removing the muffler and to put a resonator in. That was done about 3 weeks ago but still the drowning sound is there.

I took the car to another shop because of the problems I was having with the old one and they have suggested the cat my have been failing and that is causing the problems. Does that sound like it could be the issue the reason I ask is I am sick of spending money on trying to fix this problem.

Thanks in advance for any help, it's much appreciated

Cheers
Alpineau

Buy a 2.5" metalcat off ebay (around $180) and get it fitted (should be around $100 odd), or just price one from the local exhaust shops for supply and fit. If you can get a 2.5" or 3" one for around $300, take it. Even if it doesn't get rid of the droning, your car will respond better to it. Droning is definitely muffler related, so if the cat's had it, it would be affecting the sound.
