Audi reveals rapid new RS6 Avant, RS7 Sportback Performance models

German brand reveals 350km/h variants of hi-po station wagon and svelte coupe.

Audi's Quattro performance car division has turned up the wick on its RS6 Avant and RS7 Sportback, providing the go-fast estate and four-door coupe with an added 33kW and 50Nm in a pair of so-called Performance models set to go on sale year.

The lift in reserves - achieved through changes to the engine management system providing a higher ignition cut out, along with added turbocharger boost pressure - extends the output of the four-wheel drive RS6 Avant and RS7 Sportback's twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 direct injection petrol engine to 445kW and 750Nm. This is the same state of tune run by the recently unveiled Audi S8 Plus.

In combination with a revised eight-speed automatic gearbox and detailed upgrades to their chassis, the revised engine is claimed to propel the new RS6 Avant and RS7 Sportback Performance models from 0 to 100km/h in a claimed 3.7sec – 0.2sec faster than the time quoted for the standard RS6 Avant and RS7 Sportback on sale since early 2013.

Audi also claims the RS6 Avant and RS7 Sportback Performance accelerate to 200km/h some 1.4sec faster than the standard models at 12.1sec. Top speed is limited to either 250km/h, 280km/h or 350km/h with various optional dynamic packages.

Despite the increase in reserves and added performance potential, Audi says the combined cycle fuel consumption of its latest RS models remains at the same level as their standard siblings at 9.6l/100km and 9.5L/100km respectively, endowing the RS6 Avant and RS7 Sportback Performance with CO2 emissions of 223g/km and 221g/km.

Distinguishing the new Audi models are exclusive 21 inches alloy wheels shod with 285/30 profile tyres on the RS6 Avant Performance and 275/30 tyres on the RS7 Sportback Performance.

Agreed, the RS6 Avant has always been the only Audi I’ve truly had an interest in.

Ditto, RS6 is just awesome. Pricing? Thinking closer to 300k?

The RS6 Avante and the HSV VF GTS in a straightline race would the Audi win?

I don't think the hsv will do 350km/h. Yikes. That's fast.

I like the look of the RS7.

Sadly, I suspect the only Audi i'll be driving anytime soon will be the gfs A1.

Definitely RS6 over the RS7 not that I will be in a position to choose anytime soon . They both look good but I like the wags better.

The RS6 will make for the perfect replacement for my Holden V8 Sportwagon when the lease is up. Just need to find the few hundred thousand $ for the changeover...

Yeah pretty much... RS6/7 would leave the GTS for dead... They are properly rapid...

Given the means (or a lotto win) an RS6 Avant would be my daily... This new ones looks even better... I love what Audi does with its headlight and the DRL's...

They really do don't they. I'm not a big Audi fan overall, but if I was buying a wagon that's what it would be. Wagons from BWM and Benz look awkward at best.

Saw a list somewhere of "seven supercars" that this thing beats to 100mph. The main picture said "Oh, you have a Gallardo...that's sweet..."

I have a friend who has Audis (and other cars) and have driven a couple of them.
A few years ago I drove his S5 coupe with 4.2 litre twin turbo V8. It was a lovely car to drive with performance similar to the F 6 I owned at he time. But unlike the under tyred F 6, it's 4WD system got it off the line with a rush.
Last year I drove his A7 sportback TDI twin turbo V6 Diesel. While not as quick as the earlier car it still had some mumbo. If you like gadgets, you would love the central screen that hides in the dash. At the press of a button, it backs out of the dash, extends itself on an arm, then turns around and faces you. Hate to think what that would cost to replace.
