Question Skyscraper 'Stang - yes or no?

Am I the only Ford-aholic in the world who thinks that overall, that 'Stang is, to use an old Cockney expression, a load of pony?

I can appreciate the workmanship, certainly, but as a car I think it's ugly and as a showpiece I think it's ugly.

PS - pony isn't really very good...

Hang on are we talking about the infamous "G Myers" stang, or something entirely different?

I admire the engineering required to build it, but it doesn't do anything for me. I've never been a fan of the "elite" cars. If you can't/won't/don't drive it on the road or track it seems like a waste of money to me.

Yep - that one. As for pics, there are some in the Summernats 05 pics thread in this part of the forum. Silver car with purple detailing, chrome engine sticking out about 5 feet above the bonnet.

Alternatively, pick up a copy of Street Machine as there's bound to be a photo in there... they seem to love it.

Its not for me. I really can't see why he needed to perform the mechanical blasphamy of putting a hemi engine into a Mustang. Fair enough if your actually drag racing it, but from what i've heard the thing is completely un-drivable, runs for only a few seconds at a time and won't ever see the christmas tree at a drag strip.... so why not keep it true.

I'd rather have seen an A460 based twin supercharged 600ci Ford BB in that engine bay than the hemi and thats only if both the superchargers actually work (I've heard one of them is a case only and would love some confirmation on this).

My rant over :

Yeah, diasppointing effort in my opinion. Apart from the silly engine, I just don't think the colour scheme or wheels are anything to write home about... Looks like the kinda crappy rice paint job I'd do if I had a silver Lancer and a can of Aussie Export.

Which is why the green XP kicked it at the 'nats. And deservedly so.

And one more thing - Myer's last Mustang (which he still owns, i believe) is awesome - horn paint job, REAL engine, really driven in burnout comps and drags. Which makes the silver one even more disappointing.

What ever hapened to the fredom of expression when i saw the car here in Melbourne in the flesh and saw the amount of work and time that had gone in to this car all i can say is it is one of the best built and detailed things i have ever seen, and i qualify this because i have been a cocourse jidge for the lsat 20 years. And no one of the blower cases is not empty. People wake up to your selves. Take the car for what it is not who built it or owns it. If their is one car that i dont like it would be that green XP thing, i can admire the workman ship, time and money but it just dose not do anything for me. And as for the one Mr Hadfield buit have any of you ever seen it drive. No thought not it gets driven in and out of the tralier just like so many other show cars these days.

totally agree bro!

whats so different about the colour on the silver bullet to the green one that one, who gives a bleep if its silver with purple, and its just as rice as the next car with a full on paint job imo!

granted teh extra blower couldve been positioned in a better place but hey, at least its kind of original, i think the summernats would be crap if everyone conformed to a certain way of modifying cars.

i say, congrats to everyone who won and keep up the good work!

p.s so wat if its a hemi, imo it dont matter what powers it as long as the owner likes it!

/me goes off to think about an SR20DET conversion for my escort.

GO the HEMI!!!!

as a kid i had a small car it had big huge rear wheels and a monster donk sittn high and mighty, i loved playing with that car, the silver mustang looks like the real version it it and im sure he will get a visit from Matchbox soon , they build a replica of a yellow and black mustang i saw over in the USA . Keep building them, any way and manner, just dont let them rust away .
as for the winner , well if it was up to me i would break it down to $ value first , im sure kerry packer could build a car to win year after year .

'Effort' is a poor choice of words. The effort involved in even getting any car into the top ten at the Nats is beyond belief i'd imagine..
Get your facts right before you type. The green XP that Dave Ritchie owns LOST to the Mustang, (but i guess you know better than the combined expertise of 200 years worth of top class judges) It was Dave's driving that made up the difference to be crowned Overall Champ.

It was a simple yes or no poll, i cant fathom why you would nit pick a car to death because it is not your ideal or favourite..The paint was done at House of Kolor, one of the best paint shops in Australia, like to see you match that with your Aussie Export.:

It was built to be mind blowing, controversal and win awards. By throwing in the 393 cube Hemi it has given the car a cross-bred personality that attracts GM, Hemi and Ford fans to have a peep. The engine is actually based on a 80's Top Fuel dragster

Gary still drives and exhibits his '66 (his black blown monster) and THIS IS WHY HE BUILT THIS SHOWCAR!

Either way, i'd have 100% of the Top Ten cars in my garage

Hah, my first statement was completely tongue in cheek, ofcourse it's a masterpiece and who cares what kind of engine he runs ?
In the end it's all about originality and perception.

I was at the Adelaide drags on the weekend and there was a Kingswood with a Ford engine, go figure !
There was also a Pro Street Capri that flipped up vertical on take-off, awesome !!

It would be foolish to run down any aspect of the cars workmanship... its clear the car has only the best possible workmanship put into it, it'd be insane to look at the car in person and argue otherwise.

As far as one of the blowers being gutted it was suggested to me one of them was empty and the other was a 6/71 in an 8/71 case. I know half of that is now true, so I was interested to see if the other half was true.

Regarding freedom of expression, I choose to use my freedom of opinion to say I don't like it. Fair enough there's a lot of work gone into it, it just does nothing for me. To me it looks like he used the base of the first muzzy and applied 'instant rice' to it. If you like it, thats fine. Thats why we don't all drive around in white camry's... because we all have different tastes.

Just appreciate the workmanship in it I reckon. Every body does up cars to their individual tastes and what appeals to them. Be a boring world if we all liked exactly the same thing.
