I dont want one but in the quest for ever lighter parts and economy I think that space savers will become the norm sooner rather than later.

I said no...most of the cars fitted with them generally are small cars. So the whole "space saver" has meret.
But in anything bigger than a mid sizer has no excuse IMO. I wouldn't drive on one unless it was my only choice. I saw a r33 skyline with one the other day..ridiculous!

Honda are going the other way, most of their cars used to have space savers but now some are getting full size alloy spares.

I'll never buy a car without a full size spare. There's no excuse to use space savers in 95% of cars.

I want one. The AU sedan boot has a huge hump where the spare is. The carpet is wearing out around the edges of the spare hump, and doesn't even reach the rear edge because of the hump pulling up the carpet. Don't like them, but if Ford cannot design a spare wheel well that isn't flat with the rest of the boot floor with a 18X8/245 rim/tyre, then I guess it's needed.
I'm looking at getting a Mazda RX-8 17" space saver 'cause I need minimum 17" rim for the front premium brakes.

well i've got 2 skid rims in the boot plus my spare so even if they give me a space saver i'll throw a few defaulties in there anyway.

i'd like to see 2 4" wide space savers at normal diameter, in my invented dream car as i always panic a bit when i have NO spare especially after getting a puncture in the middle of nowhere with ONLY 1 spare

My Brother-in-law has just bought a new Mini Coopers "S" and that doesn't even have a spare, it has run flat tyres.

I voted yes but i'm not really bothered either way. even thou my spare is a alloy wheel its only to get you to place of repair. a spare is a spare is a spare!

I am not at the athletics with what could be described as a discus. I won't have a bar of it. I don't care if a sacrifice of boot space is made. I'll have a full sized spare. I've already been known to carry two spares on interstate trips.

Last three cars over 8 years have all had space savers & the families only had to use it once to get the original repaired.

I herd that the Aus groverment was going to banned these tin lid spares becauce they are unsafe on normal people car, as they tend to forget that these tyres have a much lower speed rating, ending up in all sorts of troube.

Ditch the spare all together for cars (and softroaders) that only ever see tarmac in urban areas and give them a toll free 24hr service number.
Keep a full size spare as a NCO for rural buyers. 4WD's (that go offroad) should always have a spare. I voted no. Heck, My now 10y/o ED Falcon (that's still for sale btw) still has the factory spare in the boot. It's never been needed (Touch wood  ) and didn't get included in the rotation because it wasn't an alloy.

Not sure what the fuss is, I never carry a spare.
I do however carry repair kits, and tube in a can. I'm all for the spacesaver, carrying a full size spare is a complete waste IMO, extra weight and money for something that in most cases is never used. And I do a lot of interstate and rural driving. Rick.
