Are both stock? I reckon it will be pretty close. At best the XR6T will run high 13s@100mph, exactly the same as an MR2 Turbo.

Stock for stock the XR6T will come out on top not by heaps, but it will.

The MR2's do go well though, handle awesome, and have plenty of potential.

WTF? There's really not much in it. The late model MR2's are a strong base which you can improve upon. Toyota make bulletproof cars with a build quality Ford and Holden are yet to equal. Not suprising really when you realise they sell many many more cars than the aussie manufacturers. They'll use less fuel and wave everything goodbye at the first sign of a corner. But they have absolutely NO room inside. Like... none at all. And having driven a peaky 11 sec model myself you need to be quick when the mid mount chassis steps out.

I wouldn't reccomend upping the power until you know what it'll do when you get it all wrong.

I'm still a member of a car club where they worship MR2's. They'll run mid to high 14's with mild work. Start going nuts and they hit 12/13sec pass's.

In I recall ran 13.2 allegedly. It had been running 14.0's all night and as soon I we leave it runs a 13.2???? The owner stetched the truth all the time. At the time the XB was running 13.2's and his MR2 couldn't even get close apart from launch.

The XR6T will whoop some butt.

http://www.dragtimes.com/Toyota-MR2-Timeslip-5486.html

1/4mile times listed here, a few relatively stock ones run mid 13s (like an air filter or exhaust) to mid 12s with more boost, all the way to 11s with engine internals and bigger turbo.

Here's my mates mildly worked MR2.. his never run it but i reckon it'll be in the mid 13's. So he would probably beat stock xr6T's thats about it though. I think it's a nice looking car, and i'd prefer it over the newer shape without a doubt.

It depends on the mods to each car but all things being equal a XR6 T will eat a MR2 in straight line performance & handling.
At 8/10s the series 2 MR2s handle fine but ask anyone who was involved in trying to race one if you go past that they’re dreadful which is a shame as the first ones were brilliant just underpowered & ugly. It’s a fairly common Toyota thing they just have very poor chassis design which means they can’t be fixed no matter what shocks, springs, bars etc you throw at it.
They do look really nice tho unlike the first & last generations.

Er Yes, toyota soarer or toyota aristo. Both of which have a much nicer motor and with internals that are strong enough for 400 and 500 kW respectively. You can pick up a 96 Aristo which has the Supra 3 litre and 4 spot brakes for about $16000.

Ok, for the fact, a stock XR6t manual, with no mods at all will do 13.43 to 13.86 1/4 mile times. Depending on drivers. MR2's higher 13's to 14's.

To get 10s from an MR2 is next to buying a brand new XR6T. with the money saved on making a quick MR2 its better off buying the "T", you'll have more room the which the MR2 hasnt, the motor is more user friendly ie:no need to rev the hell out of it to make it go and being a local built car parts are cheaper and easier to source.

Most of all, you cant beat big displacement with a GT35/40 turbo hanging off the side off a 4.0 litre.
I've shamed so many R33's, wrx's,200sx's so on, with my stock as balls XR6t. And its so easy to get a healthy 280rwkws for less than 5 grand.

They are two totally different driving style cars... In a straight line, the T's a far better option, and far more comfortable. Mine is a mid 12's. If you want to do track work, the MR2 will outrun the heavier T on a tight circuit in most cases. You have to decide what you prefer. It's all personal after the facts are layed out. :

i would say the wrx would be much more stable around a motorkhana. ive never been for a ride in an mr2 but i have in wrx's on many occasions. the wrx has a very nice stiff direct feeling chassis the grip the thing has is unbelievable (taking corners twice as tight with the same speed as my car yet with no tyre squeel or signs of it losing traction. hard in =grip, maintain speed mid corner = more grip, power out = even more grip)

ive been in both a my98 wrx and my02 wrx and both were amazing. the 98 had standard suspension whilst the 02 had been lowered with harder springs and matched shocks.
the only downside is the lack of power over a xr6t and also the weak drivetrain.
stock vs stock i would put money on a rex over xr6t if you put them on a track

The new STI's have resolved the drivetrain issue to some degree with stronger gears etc. Problem is now people will want to push them harder and they will find out where the next weak link is. As for an MR2 beating a wrx around a track I would say that that MR2 would have to be decently modified or the WRX driver was useless.
