Looks like it. I dont get people like that, its not like you're saving time.

My cars are all locked when i'm more than a metre from them (i even lock them in my garage)

My sympathy lies with the victim.Even if he did make a mistake by leaving his keys in the ignition "good on him"for having a go to keep his wheels.What happened in the car next would be like something that Ken Kesey described Hank Stamper doing to somebody at the bar in "Sometimes a Great Notion!"

The other day this guy pulled up in an SS ute at the local United, left the engine running and headlights on, and went inside to buy a Red Bull. I walked right past his driver's door as he was far inside the shop at the fridges.

I assumed his car could be locked and the engine left running, so I didn't try nicking it.

Im working in longreach at the moment (what a place)

I went to the IGA grocery store and walked past a marked police landcruiser, keys in ignition- engine running, i saw the officer inside doing his shopping while i was there.

i used to leave my keys in the car but just up the road from my work a car got stolen the same way and 2 days later the theif ended up in a few pieces after hitting a power pole and not wearing a seatbelt. karma at its best, 1 less junkie crim on the streets

You'd have to be pretty dopey to knock off a marked police car.
1. it probably has some sort of GPS tracking.
2. It is a marked police car
3. They will come looking for it and look at it this way, if you're dumb enough to steal a police car, you're probably not smart enough to evade them for long.

I lock my car when I go in to pay for petrol. Because I am at a petrol station, I leave the phone in the car as there have been cases in some areas where people run up and steal things from unlocked cars as the owner goes in to pay - handbags, wallets, phones and whatever else they can grab of value.

Some (maybe all) police cars have a seperate button that locks the car, even if the ignition is still on.

Wouldn't it be great if things were like that everywhere all the time.
Unfortunately we law abiding folks have to pay the price of the actions of the dregs out there.
In Queensland it is now an offence to leave your unattended car unlocked and you can even be booked for leaving the windows down a tad to let hot air escape.
If I was in control, all the deadwood would be nuked so the rest of us could lead a normal peaceful life.

Pretty big generalisation really, QLD is a big place. Would you leave it unlocked in Logan for example?

I live in NSW and my car is unlocked in my front yard 90% of the time, but if I lived in a suburb 15 minutes away I'd never leave it unlocked.

Little while back I watched a scumbag try to get into my car while I was paying for fuel. The car was remote started so the doors were locked. I wonder how many people leave their cars running/unattended on hot days to keep the cabin cool? I assume this guy was waiting for that exact scenario since it was a 38 degree day.

Lot of generalization in this thread, I've live in Ipswich for over 40 years now and never had anything stolen.

But yeah people that leave their keys in the car at a servo, deserve to get it stolen.

What is is with leaving the engine running at service stations? They don't do it at the corner store or at home or anywhere else, but when they decide to park on top of several thousand litres of flammable fuel, its gets in their head to leave a spark source rumbling away on top of it. Makes no sense to me at all.

Lucky for 40 years? Ok mate it's still a generalisation, Rosewood is about 20mins from Ipswich and yes Leichardt has alway been bad although it's a lot better these days. But that's not all of Ipswich so yes it's a generaliisation.

I agree.But there's too many stationary vehicles in car parks etc with the engine going just to keep the air-conditioning on.It's a big pollution hazard!
