Hi there. My daughter has just bought a brand spankin Zetec and I am wondering if there are any special running in procedures, that is, vary speed, no heavy acceleration or braking etc. Her first trip will be 1 hour city driving then about 2 hours of 110 kph country. What do you guys reckon.Any help appreciated.

Well I remember reading somewhere to vary the revs when they're new, a bit hard to do on highways.
The thing most people say about new engines is to "take it easy" but I think that's nonsense. There are a handful of people who say give it a bit of a thrashing and I'm one of them. If it can't take it when it's new how can it when it's worn in?

Thanks for the replies. She probably won't listen to what I say anyway lol. I'm going with her today to pick it up. She is very excited as her old car was an '86 Civic.

Just don't run it on 91 or 91 with ethanol fuel. Mine runs really badly on it, with pinging and a rough idle particularly on 91 with ethanol.
It likes 95 octane (and the book does say 95 recommended). |
