Looks like the Mustang is getting a new engine to slot in between the eco-friendly four-banger and the performance-oriented V-8.
Most probably a higher spec Ecoboost 4 with Focus RS specs, since they dropped the V6. Can't see a twin-turbo V6 happening (although that would be awesome), since that would eat into profitable V8 sales. (XR6T versus XR8 scenario) https://www.hagerty.com/articles-vid...ine-in-mustang |

Isn't the four cylinder already on offer derived from the RS Focus (different heads)?
Same power in any case.

3rd option will be hybrid...
Aside from being "eco", i can see there being some serious performance applications linked to it...imagine a GT350 with AWD?

The third engine option should be a V10!
Seriously though, why would you have a 4cyl option for a Mustang??? Has to be a V8 at a very minimum. 4 cyl Mustang?? No thank you. |

Something the mustang always has. You are aware the first gen Mustangs were available in a mundane 2.8L 6 with a 3 speed auto? And thst for 20 years (1974-1994) had a 4 cyl as an option? 1974 there was no V8 mustang at all...

A hybrid mustang has the potential to be very cool. I don't care what petrol engine they use to charge the batteries, I just know the tech is out there to make electric cars very fast.

True. While some on here would suggest no Mustang is real if it doesn't have a V8, I think if Ford can broaden the range of buyers as some don't want a V8 but still want a vehicle like a Mustang then it increases sales and maintains the ability to keep developing and selling such an iconic car. I just hope the success of the Mustang here keeps Ford's thoughts on providing other factory RHD vehicles.

Barra Turbo would be interesting...Too tall and long to fit though ..Imagine a 500 hp plus Aussie intercooled force inducted very upgradeable straight six pushing the pony .

If they're going to add a drivetrain, it would likely be a hybrid

"Ford's new 7.3-liter V8 could fit in the Mustang":

Not long ago, Ford patented electric FWD system for use with RWD vehicles,
this seemed specifically aimed at Mustang which is much lower to the ground than new RWD Explorer, it avoids using a front differential through the sump. |
