Hey guys,
I'm moving from Hoppers Crossing to Reservoir in the next couple of days, and I need to get my ED falcon over there. I has a flat battery, a flat tire, and a busted power steering pump. I'm trying to find the best way to get it from Hoppers to Reservior thats not too expensive. Any suggestions? Cheers,

go to the local servo, hire a car trailer for a day, 100 bucks and then you return it later. cheapest option, unless a mate has one. you could quickly fix up the small issues it has to get it running, then get a day permit ($40 bucks here in adel, might b more or less where you are) and drive it there... was going to suggest the old RAA trick but the car isnt rego'd so that wont work.

Will a car trailer be able to haul a falcon?
What sort of car can safely tow it?

Another 6 cylinder car, preferably rear wheel drive, will have no trouble at all.

what kind of telstar is it?? i have never seen nor heard of it. not having a dig! genuinly curious now...if its only 47 clicks just lump it with a VT and car trailer from the servo. dont do what i did. we tied rope to my xr6 and the other end to my HQ and drove it 25 klms, me in the ute heavy on the breaks and my mate driving my xr6. didnt go over 25kph on 4 main roads and snapped the road 4 times. never ever again.....

How much would it cost to get a towing place with a flatbed truck to do it? Wouldnt be too much surely.
In regards to the Telstar, dont they have the 2.5l? Similar to the Probe? |

On topic, a car trailer I recently hired was only rated to carry 1200kg, I reckon an ED might be over that so just check the weights and ratings of the trailer before you hire one. Wouldn't want it to jack-knife and then find out that it's overloaded and uninsured...

Ring a towie and get them to do it.
Most rental trailers are buckets and are also only limited to 2T gross weight. They normally weigh 600-800kg Tare, so a Falcon would be over that limit. Only cost me $77 to get a car transported across Canberra, a car trailer was the same price for a half day. Also you have to provide your own straps, which decent ones would be another $50+ Just let them know a couple of days in advance and they can key up a return job, in the end of the day it would end up costing you about the same amount of money without the effort or the risk.

Give Mitch a call on 0420 671 711. He is local to Hoppers and has reasonable peices for his flat bed towing service.

Still a flatbed is the better option.

1. Sit your existing flat battery in an oven (set to LOW) for 20 mins.
2. If it doesn't explode, place hot battery in engine bay. 2a. If it does explode, kick yourself for not filming & uploading to youtube. 3. Flat tyre? Be a man, drive on the rim! Or wrap it with an Australian Flag. 4. Don't forget to post up skid pics when you get to Reservoir |

As the trailer weights 600 then you can carry 1400 at most. Falcons start at about 1500 so they are illegal So you need either a 2500 trailer or a light trailer. If you have a V8, big audio system, etc. Then ya in trouble.

Actually an early Xr weighs 1250kg I think, just trying to remember what was on my rego sticker. An XR8 weighs in at about 1700kgs? So there is a fair bit of room for the trailer weight. Just using these as an example.

Two words: TILT TRAY
It won't cost you that much more, and it will be worth it for the peace of mind. as others have said, if you try with a car trailer, you need something decent to tow it with, I wouldn't even tow the empty trailer with a Telstar, and I personally don't even think a VT would be up to the job. Then there is the fact that you will need decent straps, they won't come with the straps, and they aren't cheap. As I said, Tilt tray is the way to go.
