Default Should I sell or take to wreckers

Hi all,
I am picking up my new car tomorrow and now have to get rid of the old one.

Its a 96 EL Fairmont with Dual fuel 270000km's. tow ball. XR steering wheel.
Interior not too bad.
Engine runs fine, no noises.

Now the bad.

Gearbox has a slight noise in it when under load and has never had a major service.
Paintwork is pretty bad, the QLD sun has killed it.
Tyres need replacing, has Ghia rims
has a slight oil leak which is so slight I only noticed it when I didnt use the car for 6 weeks when I was away an when I got back and moved it there was a small oil stain on my driveway.

Anyway what I would like to know is should I just take it to the wreckers and see what they would give me for it or should I advertise it for sale (unregistered). Im in QLD so you can sell unregistered without RWC
Whats it worth?

Shove it on Ebay

Or if your keen part it. Ghia Rims, Ghia Interior, Power Windows, and LPG stuff has got to worth a few bucks- more than a wreckers would give you anyway.

Wreckers will give you 100$ if that. Parting out is a good idea. Chuck it on the for sale sections here, things will go quick! Then when you've got a horrible old shell, you call the wreckers, get 50 bucks and cut your losses(you'll be in a new car anyway so you'll have forgotten by this time!!) good luck.

i used part out ef's and el''s on ebay as a business, made a fair wack from it,could almost tell you which parts sell and which parts dont.
working in wrecking yards for a few years i never seen any of them pay over 100 bucks for a car unless it was a 4x4

are you in Brisbane?

Im on gold coast (near dreamworld) but There is no chance of me selling parts off it as that would mean it sits at the house longer and that wont go down too well. Its either sell private (and within say 2 weeks) or wreckers.
I cant put it for sale on hear as I dont have enough posts yet.

It's worth maybe 400 or 500 at the auctions and a little more on ebay or the trading post being a dual fuel
I dont have room or I would take because of the gas
if you wreck it let me know and we might strike a price for the gas.

I was offered $200 for my ED at a wrecker, ended up selling it for $500 to a car yard. I was ripped off - it was a way better car than that, but nobody seemed to want to buy it :(

I can throw it on the fs section for you, if the mods will allow it?

put a figure on it and throw it in the sales yard here and see what happens

best it goes to another AFF member that can give it some TLC and might need it rather than giving it away to a scrappy
