My dad has a transit, think its about 77, he loves it and yeah he calls it the "tragic van" for as long as i remember he has had a transit, we go on some big trips in it as he races speedway and that thing never misses a beat pulling about a tonne of weight, id actually rather travel for six hours in that than six hours in a modern 4x4 or something like that.
anyone in geelong may have seen my dads bright yellow "tragic" van getting around |

When I was at the Ford dealer I did most of the vans that came in. Some things I prefer to do on a Transit than on a Falcon. Headgasket on a '04 TDCi than a BA I6. |

We had one in the family back in the 70s & 80s...6 cyl 3 speed! manual, but the best thing was the sliding drivers door which was great to leave open on hot days. The only thing was in hard stops the door would slide shut at a great rate of knots & I reckon in a side hit you would have knocked around somewhat.
I can also remember someone in the U.K fitting a F1 Cosworth engine into one of these. The ultimate sleeper! |

Dont care what anyone says, but we have diesel LWB, High roof ones at work and they are great. They are bloody quick for what they are, great on fuel (10L/100kms) drive nice and are comfortable. Not sure on the reliability though. But hell if I wanted a van of that type id buy one.
The autos do great burnouts too once you stop them from wheelhopping :evil3:
