My missus finished a night shift doing what she does and went straight to Kmart and Target and came home with a mountain of solar christmas lights of various kinds for less than half price.............and a crepe maker, although I'm still trying to work out why.

Yup, all our outside chrissy lights are now solar. We started changing them all over slowly about 4 years ago and have been completely solar for 2 years. We try and buy a feature or 2 every year to build it up but today she came home with 20 m of icicles, 2 features, candy canes, 4 boxes of mini features, 20m of coloured LED strip lights and about 20m of various coloured strings. I guess I'm going to have a shirt load of extra work to do next year.
Plus we have a 5kw solar system on the roof and have just about zeroed out our power bills anyway for the most part by turning things off, switching to LED bayonets and flouros, running timers on fridges and freezers and, yes, buying solar lights to avoid using grid power. A battery bank is the next big ticket item so we can go off grid completely by 2016 when the feed in tarif rebate goes here in SA.

Not many shops sell at a loss. Just to bring you back to reality, its normally 50 to 80 % on, before the 20% to 50% gets lopped off for the boxing day sale. What you really should be saying is that you spent $400 buying goodies worth $300 that someone may have bought for $500 just a few days earlier.

Yeah I told my boys to take me to supercheap/autobarn/repco on boxing day rather than get before. Mind you I didn't get much but I did save them some $$$.

Supercheap for me. Got a $175 Century 67EF battery for the GT for $140, $100 of which was from my mother in law for Xmas! Car starts better than ever ( no surprise there, really), and it means I won't need to trickle charge it every other week (it is a daily, but still needed a regular charge)

Rego (for the old car) & Christmas together this year is not a good match for me but next year look out. The new car will be registered in a month or two so that will definitely make things a lot easier for the Boxing day sales next year, it's all good!

cheers, Maka

If you want to save money UK, come down here.

The only retail shops that were open were the little owner operated ones, every other major shop and shopping centre (we have 3) was closed as they do every year.

So true, only the mark up is often more than 100%, Especially here in Gladstone. I often buy items online now but with bulky things like batteries, oil & tools the freight can work out quite expensive, so when I can, I take advantage of these sales for said items. There is no way a business would sell at a loss overall, maybe on some selected items just to get you in the door. But for me I just spent $100 less than I would have, on items I need to buy anyway.

If its the Gator HUD is from Autobarn/ Auto one and its the OBDII type it doesn't work in a Series 1 AU. I tired it on BMC's AU I Fairmont and not joy (also on the wife's 2004 Suzuki no luck their)
Don't get the GPS it lags to much. I have a Gator on my Series III XR8 but its hard wired (and it works brilliantly)

Wife wanted a new lounge suite. To keep her happy we went shopping in all the usual furniture shops. Eventually found one she liked. Chose the leather colour she wanted (White like our cars lol). Got a decent discount 40% off compared to the price we saw the same one in November.

It definitely pays to wait for the after Christmas sales. This time last year I was shopping for my GT and got a great price and trade in for my old FG XR6. I was really happy then .... now it is her turn to be happy.

Cheers Mike

Got suits for my wedding with the groomsmen, were $1100 when we looked at them a week ago, got for $450 yesterday. We took a gamble knowing they would be discounted but not sure if they would sell out. Stoked, saved $550 from our budget
