Default Using Fuel

hey guys my au is going through fuel, i fill it up, after i drive 100 kms, it starts to drink it moderatly fast,

i just filled it up last night, and after driVing around today shes already used a quarter of a tank of fuel,

last time it did this, was my oxygen sensor which was stuffed, cat was stuffed, my bbm gaskest was stuffed,

so any ideas, would help me out

if any one is gonna mention, my cat is causing this, i will not reply to that person and ignore them cheers

nah she doesent smell, air filter is only 6 months old since i bought it, everything has been replaced in january, i dont no if its the cold weather maybe, ecu is upping the fuel, making it use it quicker in return more throttle responce, or my ecu it self is playing up,

i will have to investigate it, i will change the o2 sensor agian, and se how she goes

cheers

i had a tune up in january, new plugs, leads, fuel filter, bbm gasket was replaced, o2 sensor was replaced, new stock cat was put in, everything was done,

but i am leading to o2 sensor, as this was the problem before i changed it, so obvisouly its stuffed agian,

i will reset the ecu agian and see what happens, ill wait till shes empty, then reset it on a full tank, and see how she goes

would the cold weather becuasing this to happen

if noting happens, i wll get the car back on the machine to make sure everything is alright

full check over is bout 80 bucks, which is quiet good compared to a nother company charging 200 bucks

plugs? i dont think 6 months is an unheard of time to wreck plugs, especially if its been running rich for a while (before you changed the o2 sensor as you said)

It'd help if you can be a bit more specific.

Top your tank up and see how many litres it takes and then do your calculations for kms travelled.

In my au a quarter of a tank can be anywhere from 13 to 20 litres - depending on which quarter it is (not all quarters are equal).

If it's around 15L/100km city driving that ain't so bad. I average around 14/100km city driving and in my car that could quite easily register as a 1/4 of a tank of fuel.

sounds like a fuel leak if its ripping thru that much fuel in so little time.

Im thinking the clamp to the fuel line to your fuel filter could be leaking/not done up tight enough?

im struggling to get 300km out of a tank at the moment, its shocking
i suspect maybe the o2 sensor but im taking it in to get looked at cuz its running like a pig, bogging down sometimes at low revs, missing and stalling when it starts etc... makes me sad

The thermostat could be stuffed causing the engine not to get to correct operating temp and the computer pumps more fuel in because its cold. Had this problem in an EB, replaced the themistat and it was like a new car.

I'm betting the standard, good condition, high flow, semi-gutted, but fully tested ok cat is giving heaps of exhaust flow which is making the ECU up the fuel.

The fully reconditioned and fiddled cop chip you've got on it's way will balance that out nicely!

Starting to lose its tune?

Do you mean it's "learning" bad habits?

now listen.

cat i have on is old allrighty

i said it was touched, you no touched, not hit with a huge dent in it.

the exhaust system i have on is only a single baby muffler and thats it, no resonator or other fancy stuff, just 1 muffler, the outlet on the extractors is 3 inch as the pipe from there to the cat, then a 3 inch out let from the cat and bolts up to my 2 and half inch exhuast system,

if you dont like it i dont care no more as i will just ignore, as long as i like it im happy

plus money is hard to get atm

but in the future i will get the cat replaced for my own sake

cheers

well i ran her basically out of fuel, filled her right up, cost me 90 dollars to fill her up with fresh fuel, then i reset the ecu, and to my suprise, she isnt using the fuel no more,

so my ecu must be lossing the tune over time, hmm

I interpreted it as "Pull the battery terminals off every 2 months or so, that should help with your fuel consumption issues"

The ECU doesn't "lose it's tune" as you say but rather it learns your bad habits over time. A Reset will fix this issue.
